What bad timing we have had this past week! DS (9) broke his arm and had to have emergency surgery, therefore we had to cancel our trip for this week! I had previously booked us into the ASMusic + Dining. However, Disney was great and cancelled everything at the last minute and did not charge anything! I could not believe it. I was soooo grateful.

Now I am back to replanning our Disney Vacation and I want to book our trip for DS's 10th bday in September. I have done the number crunching and with the free dining plan, we can now afford to stay in the Moderate resorts or even AKL or WL (std rooms).

I was looking at the CSR w/a car or AKL w/o car. Which is better .... Car or no Car? And if we stay at the AKL, what are our chances of being upgraded?

Well I hope your son is doing better. I really enjoyed AKL and the bus transportation there. It's the best I've had at any resort. I would definately choose AKL w/o a car. Your chances of being upgraded... well it is a slow time of the year so you never know. It's hard to predict it. Hope it all works out for you and you have a magical vacation. Better Hurry! Today (Sunday 7/3) is the last day to book the free dining package.

I'd stay at WL over AKL, myself, but both are great. I dont think you need a car.

That's terrible about your son. The same thing happened to my DD, but she broke hers 3 weeks before. We were still able to go, but there is no way we could have done it the week after.

As for your questions! I know the chances of getting a free upgrade at AKL, is pretty good. They don't have that many standard rooms, the way they build the hotel was to have as many views as possible.

BUT, we really like to have a car. We use it all the time. To go to every park. My DH doesn't like to wait on the buses, to be crammed into them....lol. You can get some great rates too. I see your from MA, are you a BJ's member? They have some great coupon codes. Let me know if you need them. We love the Mods. Our first choice is POR, though. DS just stayed at CSR and enjoyed it.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It was a tough decision, but decided that we would have the car and that we would stay at a Moderate. So once that was decided, i asked both of my sons, which moderate that they prefered and both chose POR independately. I was surprised! So made the reservations today for Sept 17 - 24, and got the free dining! So POR....here we come!
