Gasp!!

Yes I'm already thinking ahead. I have a five year old headed to Kindergarten (all day, don't get me started on that) and my three year old is off to Pre School 2 days a week.

I have set the date for August 23rd. (I know I plan ahead) It will be at our neighborhood park and I'm having parents pack lunchs in the kids new lunch boxes for the elemantary aged ones and I will provide dessert and activities. I have about 25 kids coming.

So far I have a School Supply Scavenger hunt
and for dessert I have school bus cupcakes from Family Fun a few years back. I'm looking for maybe one more game and a back up dessert becasue the cupcakes are a lot of work for the amount of children coming. We are also doing a school supply colection for needy kids in our school.

Got any other good ideas!!!

My kids are really excited about going to school it is me that has major seperation issues;) So I'm really doing this party for me to get me ready for this big change.

Thanks for the ideas

Popcicles, brownies, & cookies were all popular at our end of year kindergarten party. They also enjoyed playing with balls and a parachute. Could you sign one out of a local school or rec center? Don't get too stressed about planning organized activities. Our group spent most of the time on the play equipment!

*What if you have the kids make name tags for their backpacks?
*You could have them design a picture which they could put on the front of their binders-the ones where there is the plastic that you can slip in a paper in the front.

*Line up the amount of paper cups you need-you can use kid friendly designs and they can be the little cups. Use blue jello pour the mixture into the cups and add in some fish or shark gummies to make it into a ocean jello.

*Rice Krispy Treats-you could add in mini chocolate chips or marshmallows, and even make them into a design of different shapes by using a cookie cutter. You can put each treat into a baggie, then then tie it with a special message.

*Donut Holes-Just use the pillysbury biscuit premade dough in the refrigerator section, and use a little round object. Deep fry the donut holes, and coat them with cinnamon and sugar. You can put them also in a baggie after they are cooled with a message.

This site has lots of cool ideas for a back to school party. What a fun idea. (and I envy you that you don't go back until after Aug 23rd! My kids go back Aug 9th - how wrong is that!)

For cupcakes, try baking them in flat-bottomed ice cream cones. Fill the cones 2/3 full and sit them in a cupcake pan so they don't tip over. Then decorate them to look like ice cream cones, and the kids are quite impressed to find they're really cake. Also, there's no need for forks, plates, and no little cupcake papers to throw away. :)

WOW What a fun web site. I think I will do the getting ready for school race too. I'll just do cut outs of a lunch box, homework etc.. and place them around the park.

I was thinking today I might do a pinata and fill it with smarties and nerds. Still brainstorming other cute candy ideas.

I like the name tag idea for backpacks too. Becasue every age will need aback pack!

Thanks everyone for your help!!!

another fun one is to have a named, index card for each child, with date & grade... easy to decorate with a sticker or stamped image
- have several moms help & measure how tall each child is (& maybe measure their feet too) record their info & then at the END of school next summer, they can see how they have grown!

they can take their card home in their goodie bag.

If you have access to electricity, just make a ton of snowcones at the park - no baking involved & if it's a hot day...perfect

or bring along a cooler filled with popscicles/ice

The Womans Day website has some very cute back to school cookies, cupcakes, etc...

Try the Family Fun site too.
