Hello everyone. My dw and I will be doing back to back cruises on the Magic June 21, 2003 western and June28, 2003 eastern. We are experienced DCL cruisers but have never done B to B. We are interested in the experiences of anyone out there who has done this. DCL told us we have to get off in order to get back on. But we can leave our stuff in the stateroom.

The first half of the B to B will be a family reunion with my dd and her husband :Pinkbounc :bounce: , my ds 19 :bounce: and my lovely dd 16:Pinkbounc . They get tossed off while mom and dad do the second half of the B to B.

Any thoughts, concerns or advice will be greatly appreciated. (And, of course, kept in strictest confidence:smooth: )

Thanks Wes and Debbie :earsboy: :earsgirl:

That is awesome, wow i would check on the getting off part however we have seen that alot of people have been allowed to stay on board the magic ,,, unless u really want to get off.
i think it would be great to have the ship to our selves
lol peter

Hi Gene.

I spoke to a DCL rep the other day to put another payment on the cruises and he said we have to get off although I've heard from others that we did not. Our plan is to say good bye to the kids in the atrium and head for the pool while they go to Old Key West for a week then come back to the ship to pick us up. MY concern is that OKW will look like the monkey party in the credit card commercial while we are not there to keep an eye on them!!:earseek:

We also thought about getting off with them and finding a laundrymat in Cocoa Beach to do some laundry but then we'd have to hang around for a while in the terminal before getting back on and going through check in etc.

Interesting dilemma.:p Steer clear of Old Key West the week of 6-28-2003!!:earseek:

We just did back to backs last month. See my trip report on the trip report board.
We did not have to get off.

We did three in a row on the Wonder this fall. I have details in my trip report on my website, but basically it worked out really well. We were in one of the secret porthole rooms and we didn't have to get off, but that is always subject to change because it is dependent on Customs rules. Everything went very smoothly...we spent most of our time hanging out on the deck 7 aft verandah. We didn't want to stay in our stateroom, since they blast in LOUD music once all the passengers are gone (hubby dubbed it "Music to Clean Staterooms By." We also got in one of the whirlpools, but it was cold since it had just been refilled. A little while before people started to board, we checked in at Guest Services. Very smooth and painless!

Thanks for the info everyone. Did you check in for both ends of the cruise at the same time?

wes

If you stay on board, you have to check in for the second cruise the day of, at Guest Services.

We did back to back cruises in October and did NOT get off. While on one of those cruises, however, The Cruise Director was talking about doing back to backs in the future and it sounded like they may be changing the routine to where you have to get off. Too bad if that's true because it was nice being the only one's on the ship although it's really not that big of an effort. The best part of staying on...my 2 kids swam in the Mickey pool for an hour all by themselves...AWESOME. You will be able to leave your stuff in your room, as long as you are staying in the same. If not, i think you can leave it at guest services on board. And as others have said, you have to check in the first day of the second cruise.

Have fun!

Thanks everybody for your insights. We do, in fact, have the same room. Cat 4 for the two older kids but plenty of space for mom and dad after the dweebs disembark. We have booked an inside stateroom on 2000 level for the kids to bring a friend. That may not pan out and we may be cancelling that extra room within the 61 day window. In the meantime, I'm still paying for it pending, well you know...

Secondly, it turns out my ds may be doing some summer platoon leader course with the marines and may not make the cruise at all in which case my ds will stay on with us and I'll just pay for the extra person.

Wes

Dear, dd will be staying with us if ds does the Marine thing...... he can't do both!!!! duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  :earsgirl: :teeth:

we went on back to back in september, when i asked they said we had to get off since there is nothing available to do, we were in different rooms, they did keep our luggage,
