I just booked our first back to back cruise with the same room number. I am curious as to what to expect on the day of disembarkation of the first and the embarkation of the second?

Assuming port canaveral and no real changes to the redesign people flow of the DCL terminal after its current rennovation.
1. The night before disembarkation you will probably receive a note from DCL. It will tell you either to meet for a group disembarkation, or to go at your leisure. If the later, leave as late as you can from the ship to minimize time just sitting in the terminal.
2. Take your passport, check in documents, medications, and something to do off the ship.
3. Go through customs. You have nothing to declare.
4. DO NOT leave the terminal. Tell a cast member you need to check in for the next cruise. They will direct you back upstairs for check in.
5. Many times you get the opportunity to sit in the concierge waiting area and you will have a special boarding group pass that lets you on when they are ready.
Once on back on board you have a few options.
1. You can head to your room (your room host will previously have communicated with you about the day and they will work to complete your room first). However, once general boarding begins, you either need to be in your room and stay there until they open the hallways to new guests, or you need to have vacated your room at spend time in common areas. People literally camp out in the elevators and stairwells waiting for rooms to open. You going back and forth does a disservice to the room stewards trying to prepare the rooms, when people just break down the barrier 'because they see another guest going into their room'.
2. Before general boarding begins, the premium coffee shops are generally open and serving, gratis, since they are the only thing open. So enjoy a great beverage and treat and hang out with sometimes the officers while the ship prepares itself for the next group.
3. Otherwise just enjoy the day. You don't have to rush for anything.
@Quellman has it down to a science! On our last B2B, once we were allowed back on (before general boarding started) I headed to the laundry room and did 2 loads. The ship is practically empty so the laundry was done, folded, and put away. Then we left the room for lunch.
