My friends took a small backpack to DL, it held like 2 bottles of water, a few snacks and their wallets etc. Is a small back pack a good idea, could I take a larger one or are they a pain in the butt with the rides? I know there are lockers but frankly, THAT would be a pain in the butt too, as we have little ones and would like to have the stuff on hand at all times. I have a gweeby fanny pack, are they still used? Being Canadian we are supposed to have our passports on us at all times, I am scared of losing it though...but thought the fanny pack would be the way to go. THANK YOU!:)

I always carry a small backpack at DLR to hold water bottles, snacks, camera, and a lightweight jacket. It's very easy to take on rides, even splash mountiain (I just tuck it in front of me on the bench). If you want to go on GRR they have free 2 hour locker rentals just to the left of the que.

I usually take a fanny pack, but a small backpact would work too. I think a large one would indeed be "a pain in the butt with the rides".

I used to take a small packpack and I found it to be a pain...so I imagine a big one would be worse. I hated taking it off and on for rides. And when it was hot outside...wearing a backpack was just icky. So now I wear a fannypack. I don't care if some people think they are uncool or whatever. It's just so easy! I don't have to take it off for most ride. And it doesn't start to be heavy and painful like a backpack.

At WDW in January, we did bring other stuff and keep it in a locker. I didn't find that to be a hassle at all. I just kept all the stuff i knew I'd need off and on in my fannypack. And things like jackets and whatnot stayed in the locker until needed.

I took a normal sized backpack and found it only got in the way a few times...but I was glad I had it.

One thing I will share is that I forgot to take the back pack off while getting our picture taken with Mickey Mouse. I wish I had because the packback is pink camo print. :upsidedow

How old are your little ones? Will they be in a stroller. Frankly, I would use the basket of the stroller to hold things like your jackets, etc. Keep in mind though, when I first took my DS, (who was 1 at the time), you need to keep things accessible for kids if you need them, i.e. a diaper, juice cup, blankie, etc. I thought I would use a diaper bag instead of carting around a backpack, and that was a huge mistake. I hated digging in the diaper bag, in the bottom of the stroller, that was underneath all our coats etc, and then having to carry a diaper & spare change of clothes/pajamas into the bathroom in my hands while carry my DS. If I would have had a backpack with a few essentials in it, I could have just worn that it the bathrooms, (or restaurants, or wherever else you need to be) and not worried about trying to find things in the middle of tons of people glaring at you because you are in their way.

Also, I do not care for lockers. They always seem to be an inconvenience to me, but for bigger things such as souvenirs or jackets that you don't want stolen or lost, it might be a VERY good investment to pay $5 (or however much they are) to keep those things safe. If you do have a backpack big enough to fit your smaller souvenirs and keepsakes, then you know they will be safe, just be careful that they do not get broken/bent/squished when you bring your bag on a ride.

In years past, pre-DS, I took a backpack and although it was a little awkward at times, I greatly appreciated having it with me and having plenty of room to put my goodies. Tip: just try to keep your bag as empty as possible in the mornings so it is not to heavy and you have plenty of room to put in a sweater or any souvenirs you might pick up. :goodvibes

Don't expect any of the kids to carry there own bag though, I think that would be asking for something to get lost. Often kids can't wear fanny packs/backpacks for as long as an adult would be able to tolerate. And plus, you will want lots of good pic opportunities for the kids without bags!

I always bring a backpack with all my essential items and find it very useful, despite anything.

When I went in Feb. I brought a small bp just the right size for my DD4 and used it for my camera and her jacket. She was great about wearing it - she loves bps though. And when she got tired of carrying it (which was not often) I just put it over one shoulder. I didn't find it was a problem at all but I did keep a close eye on her to make sure she didn't take it off and leave it somewhere.

I have done small back packs and found as long as they are easy on, easy off they work great. I tend to prefer over the shoulder bags since I can ride many rides with the bag on. Personally I think fanny packs on top of being ugly seem very impractical for carrying stuff but that is me. If you prefer it go with a fanny pack. But don't call it that in front of the Brits :rotfl:

I carry a small bp as does my DD8. She likes having her stuff close at hand. DD11 just carries her pin bag and keeps her stuff in there. For water bottles we have Aqua Clips that we use, those are so handy. I don't have any issues holding my bp on rides, many of them have small bags that you can put stuff in as well and my bp is small enough it fits in there.

I always carry a small backpack and it works just fine! I have seen people with enormous backpacks take them on rides and seem to be fine!

I bought a Baggalini Messanger before this last trip, and it was great. It held enough in the big part for enough diapers and wipes for the day, a juice cup, and everything else I needed. My AP and gift cards and any other important docs I wore on my lanyard.

I really dislike backpacks of any size. What I found works best for me (besides stroller if gr&kids are along) is my vest of a thousand pockets.

It was a new fishing vest that has an assortment of seventeen pockets several have zippers and some were inside to secure things you don't want to loose. I could easily carry four sixteen oz bottles of water in some of the medium size pockets and there is a large water proof pocket on back (where you would usually put your catch) on the back that would carry a couple of sweatshirts.

It does get kinda warm sometimes in the summer but usually not too bad. It is also nice that you can distribute the load so it is not all hanging on your back.
