See.....I knew mom & dad could afford to take us. And I thought it would have been so outrageous back then! HA HA! Well now I'm making up for it by paying the prices now, but it's worth it!!!
:D :hyper: ::yes::

My first trip with DH was back when Epcot was being built, but not yet opened. We drove to FL and visited my cousin before heading to WDW. She gave us a partially used book of tickets. All the E tickets were gone....LOL

Those are pretty small numbers!!!

I found this neat site that calculates today's cost of living against any other year.

According to it, the cost of living today is 76.71% higher than it was in 1984! Now, I realize that it a pretty general number, but applying it to the one-day pass at MK or EPCOT you listed ($17) gives an adjusted cost today of $30.04. A quick check of the Disney site shows they're getting $52!!!

Those tickets back then MUST have been a really good value!!

:p :p

In 1984 there wasn't much to see at EPCOT Center. Not much was open and the organization was just awful. They had no signs telling you where you should be or what line to get in. It took all of 2 hours to see that movie where HISTA is today. If I remember correctly it was the Michael Jackson 3D movie, Capt. something. I wanted to see Journey and because no signs existed to tell us where to go we went to the movie first and found ourselves outside at the end and facing another 2 hour wait to see JII. MK was a good value but being pretty much the ONLY complete park the waits were incredibly long. It took three days to see what can be seen in one today.

I finally threw up my hands and gave up, ushered the family out and we went to the Kennedy Space Center. Never went back to Epcot for 5 years. By then it was worth the money.

I don't remember off the top of my head but back then minimum wage was about $2.50 per hour. I would have to argue a bit about the "Cost of living" quote. I had just bought a house back then for $28,500.00, I just sold it for $145,000.00. Considerably more than 76.71%.

Just an old-timers observation!
