Back Home from the Fort

We were there over Memorial Day weekend (arrived Thursday, left Monday). We were amazed to find that neither the parks nor the campground were overly crowded. We kinda figured we would just have to pick our favorite things to do/see and concentrate on those, but we did everything we wanted - some twice!!! It was a fantastic, but short, trip!

The Fort - We stayed in loop 700 (our favorite loop). It was full, but not packed. Everyone seemed to be behaving themselves (at least in our loop), no obnoxious neighbors, no all night music. One issue that has gotten out of hand is the golf carts - they're everywhere and some drivers are quite reckless!!!

The only other problem is that some pet owners do not pick up after their pets. Nothing is quite as aggravating as walking your dog and stepping in another dog's poop. I am always amazed at people who think the rules are in place for others to follow, but not them.

There is, of course, a no burn /no individual campfire order. It is very dry - the grass crunches underneath your feet. You can grill, gas or charcoal. The charcoal grills made me a little nervous since it would take only one tiny spark to have a major fire.

The parks - We were happily surprised to find that they weren't too packed. The only night that was really crowded was Sunday night at the Magic Kingdom. Other than that, they were full and busy but comfortable. This trip we did the Fantasmic dinner package at MGM, and it was fantasmic!!! That is the best way to do Fantasmic - I highly recommend it!

All in all - we had a fantastic mini-vacation. We didn't want to leave, but we're planning our October visit!

Woo Hoo Hoo!!!!!!! Glad you all had a great time! Hopefully the South will start getting some rain, minus any Hurricanes!!! We are getting very close to our upcoming trip to the Fort and can hardly stand the excitement!

One issue that has gotten out of hand is the golf carts - they're everywhere and some drivers are quite reckless!!!

I agree with the issue of folks not picking up after their pets! Quite rude. My dd and I were riding our bikes around the 300 loop looking at Easter decorations in March. Urgh, I learned quickly that I needed to keep my eyes down on the road......I ran over some dog poop!!! Yuck yuck!

I thought we could bring one of those covered fire pits, as long as we kept the screen closed. Has that changed or did I misunderstand? I've been shopping for one, but I don't want to waste my money on something I won't be able to use.

Oh, that is disgusting! We've always stayed in pet loops due to our cat and we have never encountered this. I guess we've just been very lucky. For this December, we have requested either the 300 loop or the 800 loop. I wish there were some way that Disney could enforce the clean behind your pet rule. Hey, how about making dogs wear diapers? Let those thoughtless owners be the only ones who have to deal with it....hehe. In case someone doesn't catch on......I'm only kidding!

Covered fire pits are allowed when conditions are not so dry. Right now and probably for the next 3-4 weeks all site campfires are banned.

We were at the fort this past weekend also. It does seem that Disney needs to explain the fundamental operation of the accelerator pedal to some quest. We saw several people that apparently did not realize that the carts are capable or than just stop and full throttle.

We also went to MK on Sunday night (9PM) and man was it a nightmare to get down main street with the parade going on. We should have just taken the train to the back of the park.

The 1200 and 1300 loops were back open. The comfort station looks great after the makeover. They really cleared out the underbrush. You can see every site in both loops from anywhere. Hopefully they are going to plant some more favorable bushes to fill in the way they did in the 1500 loop a couple years ago. The 1500 loop looks great now but it was pretty bare at first.

We did see 1 site with five cars, count them , 1 2 3 4 5 cars! Nothing else just cars.

Also noticed that they did cut the top of the lawnmower tree down. They left about 15 or 20 feet of the trunk so you can still see the lawnmower.

The love bugs made a mess of most people’s rigs. We saw a few that were down right fuzzy looking from all the bugs.

The water in the canals and the little lake by the bike barn are the lowest I have ever seen. It is totally dry under the bridge that leads to the trading post from the pool area. There was also a small gator in the lake by the bike barn.

The weather was very nice. Hot in the sun but not too bad in the shade and a very nice breeze.

All in all we had a nice trip also. Just way too short.

I don't think so. The people who drive there own carts tend to be much better at driving them and more careful since it is there own property.

OT - oh man, I just had a flashback. When I was 15 my brother had a 1962 Chevy with a column mount manual shift. When no one was around, I found that I could back it all the way to the bottom of the driveway, then pull it forward and get it into 2nd gear before I hit the garage - but I had to open the door and ended up inside. To make a long story short, my dad ended up with a door in the front AND the back of the garage.

I agree, all the abuse (in my opinion) I have seen was with Disney carts.

I tend to agree. We bring our own cart and do find that the privately owned ones are the people who obey the rules.

I agree totally I have to much money and time in my golf cart to abuse it. I even get nervous when people try to park to close to mine.

Well, I teach for a living, so the money thing is out, HOWEVER....

I don't want anyone coming near my freshly painted golf cart either. If you own it, you take care of it. That is just how it is now-a-days. You should see what our HS kids did to our brand new set of 15K textbooks at our brand new school this year! It was awful. I bet FW has a big repair bill on the carts each month!

I'm tired of walking on the sidewalk between the Meadow Trading Post and the campfire/pool area across the bridge and being challenged by a speeding golf cart. If I'm on the bridge crossing over I keep walking; the Carties who look at me like I should jump off the bridge to get out of their way can just keep waiting on their big f*t b*tt.

AuburnJen92 is right that if you own it, you take care of it; if you rent it you abuse it more often than not.

Okay, I'll get off my high horse! Wish the Fort would get some rain....we need it all over the South

I have yet to see a speeding cart in that area in all the years(over 20) that I have been camping at the Fort. Be that inconsiderate to me an you get a continuous blast of my air horns just so everyone can see what type of person you really are. As you said, just move your f*t b*tt two steps to the side. It really is rather simple. I'll explain it to you. You take one foot and move it to the right or to the left depending on which side you should be on anyway. You may need to do this twice but it does work. I know this because 99% of all the other people perform this simple solution every time. You are out of the way and not hogging the entire WALK AND CART PATH and the cart can go around you. Makes for a less stree free vacation for all. Try it, you'll like it.
