Well... what a GG adventure this past weekend was!!! Though it was a blast- I am really hoping that the 4th of July GG is at least dryer!!!
We ended up getting home just before 9 last night, but just for splashes I'll go back to the begining and go through all the squishy stuff too
Most of this story is all about getting set up... and alot about being wet... hope y'all have an umbrella!
I had originally planned on going solo Thursday ahead of the boys, but due to water leak issues and flooded out back yards- my plans were delayed. So Friday morning after getting the older boys off to school, leaving a list for Taz so he knew what he was responsible for bringing and making sure that I had what I wanted... I hit the road.
Lets just say that driving your husbands beloved truck, with the GC in the bed and a pop up behind is bad enough- but driving it through torrential downpours, high wind gusts, and said DH calling constantly to make sure you havent destroyed said truck- well thats just a little unnerving
I pulled into the Fort just after 1pm and it stopped raining
and who do I see next to me in the check in lines- which were horribly slow moving even though they had all of them open... The Mouse ke T@b!!!
So since I was still on the phone with DH
I told him- then yelled Hello out the window to Carol! SO after a very long wait in line- I was next to get checked in and it seemed like someone flipped a switch and it started to POUR!!!
We were assigned site 1730 so I drove on back and attempted my very first time ever backing up the trailer... this didnt go so well and I apologize to anyone who may have gotten stuck waiting for me to figure out where to go... im my defense- with the GC in the back of the truck- you cant even see the trailer- ask Rick- He knows what I'm talkin about! The guy in hte site next to me tried to help guide me into the site- I managed to get the trailer in but on the wrong side of the site
After expertly backing in the T@b, Carol and Rick came over to give me a hand... After a few more tries and an incident involving a naughty picnic table
I gave up and Rick offered to back it in for me- which is how he discovered the joys of hte GC... anyway- we got the trailer onto the concrete pad again, but I was so frustrated I gave up. Oh- did I mention this entire time it was pouring rain and we are all soaked to the bone...
I decided that it would be best to just push the camper where it needed to be, so I unhooked and Rick pulled the truck up...thats when 2 nice CMs that happened to get stuck driving their van behind this menagerie offered to help and
also suggested putting the camper sideways since our sand pad was drowned in water and I was afraid of getting stuck in it.... so a very big Thank you to Deb, Carol and Rick for braving the elements longer than necessary to help me get the camper in place
Y'all are awesome
Now that the camper is in place, its time to go about setting it up... at this point my waterproof jacket is soaked through and not waterproof anymore... so I gave up on that and just succumbed to being wet... I was able to get everything popped up, awnings and ezups up and get into dry clothes in about an hour...
Time to crack open the cooler and have a cold one (or 6)
I sit back and while chatting with Deb and Carol- I realize 2 things- that I must have gotten a VIP site or something and apparently the Fort had done some major rennovations in the 2 weeks I wasnt there... I managed to snag a lake front site
I didnt think there was a lake in the 1700 loop you might say... of but there is and my bed was hanging over it...
Seriously- there was a huge puddle that took up the entire area between my site and the path to the CS and at the center of this puddle it was up to my knees
I was not a happy camper about this one, but oh well... I can deal...
DH pulled in later that evening with the boys and my Princess who went directly to the kennel for the majority of the trip
due to the fact that there was no where for her to stay that wasnt covered in water... sigh...
After a quick trip to Goodings- I wanted to go to Walmart, but it was getting later in the evenig at this point and I wanted to get to Epcot- OMG I will never go there again if I can avoid it! The prices are so jacked up its horrible and I couldnt even find alot of what I wanted- what "super maret" doesnt even have fresh veggies!!!! I wanted mushrooms and onions but non were to be had. Anyway... we get back to the Fort load the coolers with ice and drive over to Epcot to enjoy the EMHs... only to end up at the ER with my youngest ds for a boo boo that wouldnt stop bleeding... some "magic powder" and a few bandaids later
we were on our way back to the Fort and to bed for the night...
Saturday morning I woke up to blue sunny skies and was thrilled that it ooked like it was going to be a beuatiful day. Olny my oldest DS was up, so he and I hit rope drop at Epcot, got some great pics of all the flowers, walked right on to Soarin and went again with just a short wait... then headed over to France for some fresh croissants to bring back for lunch since we didnt get to have our traditional Ham and Cheese croissant dinner the night before...
After lunch we hit Hollywood Studios to see some of the Star Wars weekend and did some of the stuff around there. Later in the afternoon the skies started to darken and wind started to pick up, so we thought it best to head back to camp before the skies openend up on us... which they did right as we got back to the camper... the rain slowed down later that night and Deb, Carol, Rick, Jen, Chris, Lorna and Rich stopped by for a few drinks and a ton of laughs... the rain totally stopped later on and we took the GCs out for a spin around the Fort... DaddysCoolTV was over in 300 loop and also got one of those upgraded waterfront sites- his was complete with the splashing family of ducs and a running creek though... MickeyMobile was over in the 1300 loop though by the time we got over there, everyone was sound asleep... after a little more looping and watching some delinquents pulling pranks of the poor bus drivers- we called it a night- but it was a blast! Meeting y'all in person was great!
Sunday was Matthew's 8th birthday and we spent most of it at the pool- warning to fellow Dis'ers with little ones- there is an unposted rule that children have to be under 48" to enjoy the new splash zone. I found this out after 3 of my boys (2 of which are under 48") were told they were not able to play in the Splash Zone... needless to say I had a little chat with management over that one... We left the pool when the skies started to threaten again- and Jen told us that she heard from Deb that a major hail storm was luring just around the corner so to speak... so we tripe to get a tarp up over the Pup since our roof was leaking... and Thank You to Jen and Chris for braving the storm to help us out... Again, just a few short hours later the skies started to clear and we hung out around the site with some Dis'ers. I wanted to go over to MK for Wishes and EMH, but I was just too tires, so we called it a night and put the boys to bed.
We decided to pack up on Monday and all leave together and joined Jen and Chris over at Epcot where we had our own Memorial Day BBQ in Epcots parking lot with Carol and Rick. Then spent the rest of the afternoon at the park until once again the skies opened up and it stormed...
Thats about it for this report... if I can find the wires for my camera and DH feels like being nice to me- I'll get some picsup and maybe even a video clip of the storm Sunday afternoon and Matt standing in the lake next to our site...
It was great meeting everyone in person!!! Can't wait till the 4th!!!
