So here I am. About 2 weeks before I head to the World I am all excited for joining the WISH group. Then what happens, I fall apart. I am doing WW and have been doing WW since 1998 (in between having babies). Well I had my second daughter in April of this year and got back on track with WW in September. That last a month and I got fed up. I am tired of counting points and being so strict with myself. So I decided the week before vacation I was going to just "watch" what I eat and be sensible. Well I haven't weighed since then, mostly because after getting back from the World who knows what happens...

But I don't feel bad. In fact I felt good at WDW. And all that walking helps. I didn't pig out like I normally do either. We got back late Sunday and now I am trying to keep up with the "watching" myself to see how it goes.

So here is my question... IS THIS BAD?? Is this possible?? I don't know. All I know is that I am frustrated and need something else. I was in burnout and that isn't good either. After all these years, I know I can't be strict with myself. Weight loss is very difficult for me and a very slow process.

Hey Jen,
Sounds like you've done some great self-detective work. That is a great place to start. I don't think you're strange for wanting to not always be counting points, carbs, calories and the like. That is an awful lot of stress. But, if you want to lose weight in any reasonable amount of time, you will probably need to do something along those lines. However, if you are willing to take it easy and be happy with who you are and with your body, then I think you should be happy just treating yourself better, and the rest will follow, though more slowly. It was mentioned somewhere on this board that you really need to love yourself in order to be successful in living a healthy life. Always be good to yourself, and remember that that doesn't always mean eating whatever you want, whenever you want. As parents, we are often last on the list when it comes to being taken care of. Think about what you want for your little ones, and then ask yourself if your parents wanted you to let yourself be last on the list. Be as good to yourself as you are to your kids, pets, plants, whatever. You'll be setting a good example for the rest of your family , as well as giving yourself the TLC you deserve.

Keep the Faith!

Well......you sound just like me.....I have never been one to stick to diets, exercise, quitting smoking, anything that requires my will power and or strength. This time though, I AM DOING IT. I'll tell ya how I did it. FIrst thing was that I found WISH. This is a great place for ideas, stratigies etc. I am busy as well.....I have four kids under 2-10 7 activites, work etc. What I did was made mini goals (feel free to check out my journal, my goals are listed there ) Then I SLOWly incorparated them into my life. First thing was I started with the water. I have never been one to drink water but I forced myslef to do so. (NOW, 2 months later I can't live with out it). Drinking the water was very important because I ACCIDENTLY stopped drink soda or sugered drinks. Honestly I didnt even realized it till about 2 weeks later. I joined curves which became an escape from the family for a half hour a day. I don not count points carbs etc. I have just been senisble, I have to say with all the posts I read on here about carbs I have been watching them but defintily not counting them. Next thing was I vowed not to eat past 6 oclock a night. My strategy for that was to start going to bed early. I also bought Dr. phils book. I never liked him but everyone on WISH raved about him. Needless to say I have not finished the book but I do pick it up when I am feeling weak. adn I do believe it helps. Anyway good luck and feel free to PM me. I would love to talk. Your post really hit home I was feelign exactly like you 2 motnhs ago and 20 heavier.

I am so glad to hear that you were able to lose weight without have to count/track every little thing. That is my downfall. I did it for 3 years on WW and I old lost 30 pounds in one year. That was being faithful to the program. But after 2 kids, I am back where I started. I figure that if it took me a year of being miserable because I was so strict just to lose 30 pounds, then I think I can eat sensibly, watch my portions and exercise my way to losing weight. If this doesn't work, then I will go back to counting, but I just feel like I have to give this a shot, because I am much more happy doing it this way. If I start gaining, then I know it won't work for me.

The positives... so far I am not snacking at night. This was a huge downfall for me. But I am being more satisfied during the day, thus not needing to snack on junk at night.

And water was never a problem for me because I usually drink a lot of that. If I don't, I feel it.

I am going to check in here more often and hope that this group can finally help me achieve my goals!!!

I, too, have decided to just incorporate healthy choices into my diet and see what happens. I was successful at WW several years ago, but gained it back (plus some). I went back to WW a couple of times, but got discouraged because I would weigh, measure and count - and the first week I gained three pounds. I cried all the way home. Since then, I've tried many diets. I've tried low carbs for a while, but I just don't think I can live a happy life that way.

So, about two weeks ago, I hit rock bottom about my weight - cried off and on all day (I have about 40 pounds to lose). I decided I was just going to stop eating junk and watch my meal portions.

I know this will be a slow process. I am 52 years old and lose weight very slowly. However, even if I don't lose quickly, I know I will be healthier and isn't that the most important thing?

Tomorrow morning my friend and I are going to Curves to see what it's all about. I think it could really help and I am going to try to find the time to go at least twice a week.

Anyway, sorry to go on so long, but I do know how you feel.

I think you can do this - I know others have. I have found that it is getting easier not to eat after dinner and my cravings are subsiding.

YOU CAN DO IT!!

Thanks antmaril, you sound exactly like me. I am 31 and now after having baby #2, I need to lose about 50-60 pounds. Once I get there, I will decide if I need to go lower or not. This amount would be at a very high end for me, but lower than I have ever been.

I know we can do this and it is nice to have a cyber shoulder to lean on! I know it may take me 2 years to get to my goal, but at least I am getting there. And slower means I am more likely to keep the weight off!!

I hear you. I burned out on WW very fast. Same with South Beach, even though you don't actually count carb grams on that one.

The things I'm doing now are things I can live with. A quick way to cut a lot of "bad" carbs from your diet without obessing over grams is to cut out refined, processed foods, and white bread, rice, and pasta. I still eat bread, pasta, and rice, just multigrain bread, whole wheat pasta, and brown rice. It has eliminated a lot of the cravings and low blood sugar moments, and I'm still satisfied, because I don't feel deprived. The other big thing is portion size. Don't worry so much about the calories and/or points in any given item, but make sure the serving size listed is what you are eating.

When I stick to these "rules", I don't get burned out on what I am doing, and the weight still comes off. Not as fast, true. But when I've lost weight quickly in the past, it comes back on just as quickly as soon as I mess up. So I'd rather go slow, and make sure the weight stays gone for good!

Isn't nice to know there are others out there who feel the same way you do. I think it can be very helpful.

Are any of you familiar with a WISH member named PartyofSix (Tammy)? She has lost 90 pounds doing exactly what we are talking about. It can be done!!

Tammy is an inspiration!
