Went with DDs and 4 grandkids. Beautiful resort for families. Kids loved the playground and splash area. I think the resort was full but never felt crowded. No problem getting chairs. Didn't notice chairs being reserved with towels and no people. I don't think the resort is the same since the 2003 hurricane, still has the odor. We did have a clogged drain upon arrival along with a sewer smell. It had to be fixed the next day. We had connecting Inn rooms so not a problem and did not effect the pleasure of our trip. Enjoyed the healthier food choices at Bleachers. Did the Sat. morning character breakfast. The characters went out of their way to interact with each kid. And those Mickey waffles...Yum. I see the contradiction, healthier food vs Mickey waffle. Fun trip.

Does the hotel smell like wet carpets or something moldy?
Thanks
Kerri

We're going to be there very soon. Thanks for the report. We've been there since the hurricanes and haven't noticed any smell in the drains, so I don't think there's a constant problem.

Glad to hear that others have not noticed a smell. Hopefully it was just the lingering odor resulting from our clogged drain, which definitely smelled.

I see you had 4 DGC with you...we have 3, ages 3, 4 and 5. They are traveling from Mass. and think they are going to our Florida Beach House. They already have been to our Cape May house, as a matter of fact, they were, well 2 of them were, in the water off Cape May on Mother's Day this year already...can you say "love the waves?"

I don't remember much about the pirate ship. Are there water guns to spray around it? Is there another play area that your DGC enjoyed? Did they go to any of the children's activities? Do you know how often the Unbirthday Parties are held? What is the charge for the mini-golf? We've only been there as a couple, or with other adults. I know that I tried the large water slide, and it should be fine for the 4 and 5 year old, is there a smaller one? Gosh, there's so much that I don't remember!

The pirate does have 2 canons. They move up and down but you can't control them. There is a very nice playground between the pirate ship and the 1st hole of mini-golf. Golf is $1 for DVCM per game or $5 length of stay. My 4yo didn't participate in planned activities because the 2(almost 3)yo would not have been allowed. Purely to keep the peace for me! They did have the un-birthday party and a Fri. night campfire. You really have to watch out for no-see-ums. The kids got bites all over their legs playing early morning mini-golf.

Sorry to hear about the sewer. Nasty but great to hear it didn't ruin your trip. Frequent eater there and have stayed a number of times since 04 and this ole Salty dog hasn't noticed a smell. Francis did minor damage then there was quite a bit of water damage after Hurricane Jeanne in 2004. Posted some pictures awhile back from the beach from two days after she passed. You should have seen the main building. Debris, sand and windows gone. You felt sick to your stomach. sad2: Was not allowed to use the camera. There were already workers patching things up. It is truly amazing how fast the resort rebounded. :) They are still trying to get Wabasso public beach access back to what it was. Red tape. A few months ago Disney created a bit of an "uproar" with some local surfers and beachgoers when they closed down Wabasso to allow trucks of Disney sand access for beach renourishment after some bad beach erosion last year.
DW is taking the Mickey waffle iron with her this stay. They still don't taste the same though. Shhh don't let DW hear that.pirate:

Was there any lingering smoke from the wildfires? DS has allergy-triggered asthma and I'm wondering if I'll need to get the Dr. to refill his inhaler and prednisone before we leave.

Wasn't down at the resort but was over in Sebastian this past week and there was a faint smell of smoke. Would do it to be on the safe side. We just got hammered over here outside Orlando this afternoon and they are to get some rain on the coast this evening. We need it!!pirate:

We drove thru the fire damaged area between Melbourne airport and Vero. The breeze at the resort seems to blow from the ocean towards the shore and I don't recall a smoky smell.

Just a quick update from VB. No smoke smell from any lingering hotspots that may be up towards Malabar and Palm Bay. Everything looked out alongside 95 on the way down. (E-NE winds.) Was out walking the beach early. The breeze keeps the No-see-ums away. Breezy. Great weather. Low humidity.
Everyone that is heading here soon or just left, hope you enjoy/ed your stay.pirate:

Have never been there, and would like to know what the water is like. Is it more like Jersey beach-kind of brownish and cloudy, or more like Miami area-blue and clear, or somewhere in between. How far in can you get and still see your feet? Also, we are thinking of going in early May possibly next year. How about the surf. Is it fairly calm, or is it good for Boogie board, or is it really strong?

If anyone can answer, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

It is mostly blue water, but wave action is awsome so you don't get to see your too far out.

Do you know if the wireless Internet access is in place yet? There's been no new updates to the DVC Member website. We'll be down there next week. Thanks.

The Complimetary Wi-Fi had a very strong signal in the lobby and out as far as the croquet lawn. Used it outside a few times and never had a problem connecting to the notebook. We we in Cottage 1250 near the main building(hoping to still get a signal on one of the decks ) and could not get a signal there. Enjoy your stay.pirate:

When we were at VB they let a little one "open" the pool every morning-very cute! We saw staff members at all times of the day leading groups of children in different activities-it's a great place for empty nesters (like DH and myself) and young families.

We were there in May and did not noyice any foul smells, it was our first trip but certainly not our last. To quote DVC Vero is really a "Best Kept Secret" DW and I had a ball, we booked a late flight home and spent our last day in Epcot which was a nice bonus. Even got to see some turtle eggs.

Hi, Castoff! Do you have any pics of the resort, pool and/or rooms you can post? We just purchased (sight unseen), and I can't wait to go. Unfortunately, it won't be until 2009. We have already paid for a week in Daytona for this summer, so we'll be doing a Daytona/WDW trip and possibly a VB/cruise trip next year!!!
