I Am Sick Of Reading These Negative Reveiws Of Ssr!!!! I Bought Into Ssr But Have Not Seen It Yet. My Family Leaves In 3 Days For Our First Stay. I Have To Say I Am A Bit Concerned!!! The Worst Part Is, I Should Be Excited- Instead I Am Nervous.

don't be nervous - SSR is beautiful, yes it's more spread out but it's also very peaceful... keep in mind, different strokes for different folks . we are all NOT going to like the same things - many of us have different expectations, not just while on vacation but regarding life in general..and SSR is new, so it will have kinks, like almost anything else that has just opened..

go with an open mind , get off the plane, breathe that wonderful Florida air , enjoy that "welcome home" greeting and let the magic begin! have a wonderful trip :wave2: and let us know how it went when you get back!

C'mon- you really believe walking to McDonalds at Downtown Disney is as convenient, or as pleasant, as going to your resort's snack bar? It sure as heck wasn't "three minutes" from where we were staying.

Have fun walking to McDonald's- our next stay is at BCV, thankfully.
Actually I don't eat at McDonalds (probably why I can walk so fast) was simply pointing out the location for Mrs OP. Personally I like DTD, and from CP you should be able to get there in less than 5 minutes I'll add two minutes for the slow folks, at any rate the walk is enjoyable as is the boat ride if your at the other side of the resort. Then again I love to walk. Just an added note they rent bikes :moped: at SSR for getting around or you can bring your own if you drive. There are bike racks at the entrance to DTD as well as the parks, kind of far and lots of traffic watch the little ones if you try it. In fact you can ride to the grocery store from SSR. Not suggesting you do it when your alone with little children. If you really don't like the open feel of SSR and don't enjoy DTD, can't find anything to eat at AP, possibly SSR is not for you. This is vacation we're talking about so it should be enjoyable, I grew up in Atlantic City NJ, so BWV does nothing for me, except I did like being able to walk over to Epcot for dinner, a little more than the alloted three minutes but what the heck fish and chips are worth the walk..

Don't worry at all. You'll have a GREAT time. In my opinion, even if there was a horrible Disney resort it would still be better than 99% of the non-disney resorts out there.
Smile. You'll be in the World in no time at all! I'm jealous!!

Don't be. It's beautiful. The best part about reading negative reviews is you get there and say, is THIS what everyone was slagging on? It's very beautiful and very elegant.

The things that are wrong with it can be corrected (full service dining is on the way, and hopefully they will get a handle on getting the bus needs right.)

Enjoy your trip.

Please don't be nervous!!! It is a lovely resort!! It is quiet, relaxing, with lots to do!! We like the fact that after a long day in the parks, we can go back to a beautiful, comfortable resort to relax. Others, think differently. :confused3

Go with an open mind. You are reading others' opinions. We love SSR and no matter how many negative posts there are about having to walk to a bus stop or no indoor hallways (non- existant issues for us) we will never feel like we got a "lesser" resort. Many on these boards have tried to make that seem the case. :rolleyes2 We don't really care for some of the other resorts but would never "bad mouth" them as others seem to do about SSR.

Enjoy your trip!!!

Don't be nervous! Here's the thing: many people on these boards analyze and scrutinize and examine every inch of their Disney vacation(s). I started to do it myself and nearly passed out when our coffee pot at SSR overflowed twice and my mom had to mop it up on her vacation. I thought I had studied every possible eventuality and planned our trip down to the letter. How could this have happened?!? Of course, my mother didn't mind at all and didn't think that DH and I had thrown our money away on This Place with the Broken Coffee Pot. She called SSR housekeeping and asked if they'd please bring another, and a very lovely young woman arrived soon afterward with a different pot.

We didn't notice a problem with the buses...they seemed to arrive in a very reasonable amount of time. But maybe we were too busy being happy looking at the fountain or pointing out mockingbirds to our kids in the beautiful Florida sunshine.

Do you see my point? I think maybe a little of the magic gets lost when we start being a bunch of perfectionists. And as far as the where-to-stay debate goes, there are a couple of DVC properties where I have no desire to stay. They just don't have the "feel" that I want. Of course, I'm not going to mention them by name because I don't want to start another Resort-Off Battle. ;)

i.e. Those who are just as happy in a Moderate as they are in a Deluxe?

Hope not.

I don't think this is where I was going in this case...I was recently there for a conference. As far as the moderates go---Cornado Springs is different than the others--it has an open campus like feel, everything is very spread out and it is a newer resort with updated amenities and the open hallways. So Disney built this resort to appeal to a different crowd--business folks, conference and convention attendees. As a matter of fact-lots of people in business suits!!!
Not a whole lot of over the top Disney there either.

I'm glad to hear the tip about first floor having more frogs. I'd rather walk the stairs. :cool1:

No need to be nervous. Different resorts appeal to different people. You need to experience it for yourself and form your own opinion.

DH and I toured SSR in January and it is a beautiful resort. Everything is new, the furnishings are elegant, and you can walk to DTD. The fitness center is the best on property and the spa looked very inviting. The timing wasn't right to try the food at AP, but the menu looked interesting. After our tour we took a bus from SSR to Epcot and we didn't wait more than 15 minutes.

As it happens, DH and I are not the "elegant furnishings" type. We prefer the casual beach house look of BWV and BCV or the Martha's Vineyard vacation home feel of OKW or the "cabin in the woods" feel of VWL. And we generally don't spend much time at DTD (we're not shoppers, club types, or DQuesters and as vegetarians we have better dining options at Epcot). So overall SSR would not be my first choice, but that's us.

The elegance of SSR sets it apart from the other resorts and that appeals to a lot of people. Being able to walk to DTD is as valuable to DTD fans as walking to Epcot from BWV is to me. Overall, apart from the fitness center and spa, SSR is not "us" but we want to try all of the DVC resorts so we do plan to stay at SSR at some point and I'm looking forward to it. Now where did I put that list of spa treatments?

Jeez, now I feel bad. Please understand that my (and, I suspect, others') dislike of SSR is ONLY in comparison to other DVC resorts. If I had never been to VWL or BCV, I'm sure I would have been wowed by SSR. If it was the only DVC resort, I would gladly own and stay there.

I'm sure you will find it beautiful and wonder what the heck idiots like me were complaining about.

Of course, once you stay at VWL or BCV it may be a different story...

Stop worrying--SSR is a beautiful, peaceful resort! We just had our first trip there in January and loved it. :thumbsup2 Check-in only took a few minutes. All the CM's we met were very friendly and helpful. We were very happy with the villa, pool and spa. Sometimes we waited 2 minutes for a bus and sometimes 20--I think it's just luck. Have a great vacation! We are going to BWV in June and I hope we like it as much as SSR. :goodvibes

Personally I'm thankful for the negative posts I read before we stayed at SSR - they made it that much more of a contrast to my expectations! We took a sort of last minute trip last May to WDW and we decided to give SSR a shot *despite* a few of the posts I had read here. We loved it! Admittedly we did drive everywhere, so I can't comment on the busses - but we loved the layout, the walk to DTD, the casual feeling around the resort, and the ability to park close to our room. The main pool was a huge hit with our toddler as was the playscape by the quiet pool that we were near. Our view of DTD from our balcony was great to share after DS's bedtime :) We also really enjoyed Artists Palette. We will definitely return! Like a lot of PP's have mentioned - each DVC resort has a different feel and we enjoy having a different vacation experience at each one of them that we've tried so far (VWL and HHI are the remaining two on our list) - that's the beauty of the flexibility of DVC ownership IMHO.

SSR was absolutely excellent for us in October 05! Buses were timely, congress park quiet pool was SUPER relaxing. Very enjoyable walk to DTD and to main pool! Love that for how huge of a resort it is, you do not feel crowded AT ALL!!!! Super friendly staff who addressed any issue we had (not even worth mentioning) within 5 minutes of calling!

You are going to get all different opinions from various people with different tastes, interests, etc...... Also keep in mind that various different times of year are bound to produce different opinions, etc....

Feedback from others is great, but you need to formulate your own opinion and the only way to do that is stay there!

Good Luck!!
