Hello all, we were one of the lucky people to get the 38.00 special/mistake/whatever on Travelocity for Christmas night at SSR. We are former DVC members having sold our 270 BCV points earlier this year but we couldn't pass up staying at SSR for 38.00.

Before staying at SSR we had jokingly called it the "DVC barracks" and said we'd never, ever stay there. So, I was VERY surprised that we ended up loving it!!!

We checked in just before 3pm on Christmas Day. Diego, who was "earning his ears" checked us in, he was very friendly and even asked us if we had any requests. I really knew nothing about the layout so I just requested the top floor. We were given a studio in The Paddock section (5800 section)right next to the a quiet pool, Paddock bus stop and playground.

The room was really lovely, the furniture is so nice and it was in perfect condition. Much nicer then the rooms we'd had for previous stays at BCV, BWV, VWL and OKW. We really loved the decor and I found I actually loved the outside hallways! Something I thought I'd hate. It made the studio feel more "homey" and it was very quiet, we heard no outside or neighbor noise.

Here was our view-

We ate at the foodcourt twice, once for lunch and just donuts and stuff for breakfast. For lunch we had flatbread pizzas which were very good, I loved the decor in the seating area, the lighting especially. We also swam in the quiet pool, the water was very warm and the pool was really clean and I the frog fountains were a cute touch.

I loved the location of our room, it was great having the playground next to the bus stop. Both times we waited for a bus the kids played on the playground until it arrived, made the wait time fly by. I think we waited about 15-20 minutes each time but I'm not sure because I spent the time watching the kids have a blast. The bridge across the lake was really cool, made for such a nice walk over to the main buildings.

One of the best parts about SSR was the staff! Top notch and so incredibly friendly. Every CM we'd pass greeted us with a warm hello or welcome home. They'd even wave hello while driving by on a golf cart or as we'd pass in the car. They just went above and beyond, best CM's we've ever experienced at a DVC resort.

If we didn't just move right next door to Disney we'd probably buy back into DVC at SSR, it's a wonderful resort!

Thanks for your report...we'll be there (SSR) on Sunday and your report is getting me excited!!! Glad to hear you used the pool too; I wasn't sure what the weather would be like but it sounds like the water is warm enough!

Thanks for the report. (And especially thanks for the photos.) I'm glad you enjoyed SSR.

We own at SSR and love it. Thanks for the photos. Reminds me of our "winter home". Can't wait to go back.

I loved the view of in The Paddocks, might request there next time. I want to try each section out.

loved the Pics, and glad you had a enjoyable stay!!! :flower:

Awesome report and pics! Your view was lovely. It's so nice to hear positive reports about the resorts. :cool1:

Was that the view from your balcony? It looks great. Can't wait until we go in October. Thanks for a great report.

Yep, that was the view from the balcony.

I forgot to mention, the only con- We were given a non-smoking studio that some rude person had obviously smoked in before because you could smell it. We opened the slider to air it out but the linens and stuff still had a faint smell. If we were there for more then 1 night we would've requested a room transfer but since it was ony 1 night we didn't bother.

Glad your bus stop had a playground near it.

the one at Congress Park did not and could have definitely used one.

Isn't it amazing someone can stay somewhere and see things from such a different perspective than others.

We too really like SSR and do not find the Paddocks to the be the horrible location some have labeled it. We do not find the views bad from there at all or the noise. This is a really quiet resort and the buildings are well built.

We also agree completely with the food and seating area at Artist's Pallette, we found it very pleasing and good food.

As to the staff you could not have described our encounters better, we never met anyone there that did not seem to have that Disney spirit we all want and love.

We stayed in the paddocks on our 1st trip home 2 weeks ago. SSR is awesome and we can't wait to return. Had a great view of the DTD fireworks and a 10 minute walk to DTD. Except for the "door slammers" next to us, we have no complaints. Bus service was great and CM's were friendly and efficient. :cool1:
