running ZAR right now to see if I can find them. If not, I think I'm going to have some pretty disappointed neighbors. It was their first trip with the only child and against my advice while we were there, they didn't take their own pictures with a p&s when she was getting pictures on Main Street, pictures with the Princesses, etc.

I know someone else had an issue with losing files with the D7000 on a recent trip. Anyone know if they found them?

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

shortly after I got my Sony A700s, I bought some new cards, the first time I used one I took some pictures reviewed them and all was fine, 10 minutes later I went to view them again and they were gone, I was able to recover them with ZAR, but it happened a second time, so I contacted the card manufacturer, they asked for the serial numbers of the cards.
, they then told me the problem was that the cameras were new models and the cards were not compatable... They asked me to send them the cards, and said they'd send new ones with a firmware upgrade that would make them compatable with my A700s, I have been using the replacement cards ever since, with no problems..

I wonder if that might be the problem , in your situation

Was it a corrupt card? Or the images just didn't write to the card because of camera malfunction?

Not really sure what the issue was. It wasn't that they didn't write at all, because I specifically remember viewing all of them on an empty Main Street while we were at our pre-park breakfast at Crystal Palace. Now...none. It looks like the whole memory card just erased. I have shots from our first day up until I changed the memory card, and then a gap in my shots all the way through about mid-day through our second day. Probably about 300 shots, so I'm guessing it was just one memory card. So far, I've gone through 3 memory cards and nothing. I have shots all the way back to a trip in DC from April 2009, but nothing from this trip. Hopefully I just haven't gotten to the right card yet.

Wow, Ann. So sorry to hear this. Hopefully ZAR can recover them.

I think Jeff F had that same problem with his D7000. Maybe shoot him a PM?

I GOT THEM!! :woohoo::woohoo: Or at least, the important ones that can't be replaced anyway. I switched out my card readers because one of my memory cards wasn't coming up when I tried to run ZAR on it and low and behold, there they were---no image recovery even needed. Thank goodness. Even though it wasn't my "fault" I was dreading having to explain the lost pictures to my neighbors that were so excited to see them.

Hi Ann,

I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles.

My question is this, what is the brand of memory card that you were using
and
I think I remember you said you were taking 2 cameras down. Were you swapping the memory cards between the two cameras with out formatting first?

I know that my D90 and D60 don't seem to like it when I format a card in 1 camera and then swap it out in another with out reformatting it in the new camera. It will generate a new folder if not formatted for the new camera it has been inserted in. I haven't lost any pix though as I noticed this and became more careful about keeping track of cards.

I now number my cards and I only use the even ones for the D60 and the odd ones for the D90 just to keep things simple.

Also I am using San Disk Extreme III cards class 6 for both the Nikon D90 and D60 as per the spec from Nikon.

All of the above is just me thinking out loud. Perhaps someone will recognize what the conflict is and be able to remedy it for you.

I really hope you are able to recover your pix..
Good Luck,
Marlton Mom

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 That's a close call.

Some time, the card reader can play tricks too, not just the card itself. I have one 4 gig sdhc card but my first 6-in-1 card reader doesn't support it. Every time I plug it in my laptop, I have nothing. But when I insert the card back into the camera, I can see all the pictures again. :headache: I end up pick up a separate sdhc card reader that support it and I was able to see all the files on my laptop.

WingDings? Weird...

Sounds like it's an issue that's a little too common. Other than that, I loved my time with the D7000 though! :)

Lucky you! I was upset when I read this title!

I had this same problem with the d7000, but I never recovered mine :(

Glad to hear you got them back. Looking forward to seeing some of your shots when you get thru them :)

Glad you got your pictures back,Are these new cards that you bought for this trip or ones you have used in the past.

Glad you got them back - sorry that Gdad didn't.

I've had a couple funky things happen with memory card readers. For a while, I was using a cheapie clear blue one that I got for a few bucks from one of the Chinese retailers (probably Meritline) and it works fantastically; in fact I actually have 2-3 or them. (One stays in my wife's Fuji PnS bag so she can use it at her job, etc.)

Meritline had deals on a couple other ones since then that do multiple types of cards, so I've got 2-3 of those that have been different designs... and they're all been a bit funky. They'll see the card, but after starting to move data, they'll barf and say that they can't access the card. I'll eject and reinsert, and things will be OK. I would have to copy and then delete everything to avoid errors, and even that was dicey. For a while, I thought there might be something with my PC, but when I started using the old reader again, things were fine.

I since replaced my old internal reader (which couldn't do SDHC) with a new one, and that one works great, but I used the old blue one on our last trip nightly and it still works perfectly.

That was a bit rambling but the point is, be aware that the card reader itself can be a bit funky, and when in doubt, try another one.

I think that this is the one that I've got, but the color is slightly different... but the design is the same. And on sale for $1.49. It's hard to beat that. (The ones that didn't work were actually under a buck when I bought 'em, so it's probably worth digging deep and spending the extra dollar or so. :lmao: )
