Visited the Lord of the Rings Exhibit today at the Museum of Science in Boston. Very cool. Lots of costumes, armour, weapons...and of course the ONE Ring. Lots of interesting video and factoids, too.

Sounds like fun! Do you think you will have pictures that you'll be able to share?
:earsgirl:

I wished that I could see it---but, I am missing it by 2 weeks.:(

It's definately traveling. It leave Boston 10/24...this was the first American stop.

Unfortunately, they did not allow cameras inside!! Or cell phones. Or pagers. Or gum.

They had exhibits where you could touch some of the costumes and hold some of the swords (wearing gloves.)
One exhibit photographed two people in the cart at Hobbiton to illustrate how they did the size photography between Elijah and Ian.
Another exhibit was scanning people's faces then digitizing them into different war helmets and another that digitized you into a fight scene.

Found this after a brief search.... Really cool that it's coming here to Houston :D

I don't know if I could go to something like this, even as much as I love these films. When the extended edition of FoTR came out, we watched a bunch of the extras. Usually, I love to know all about the behind the scenes stuff, but then the next time we watched the movie, all we could do was focus on what we had learned and try to spot it. I felt like it took something away from it for me. For these films, since Peter Jackson & WETA did such a great job at making everything seem so natural and real, I would have preferred to just leave well enough alone. We do like to watch it with the cast commentary, though. They give away some info there, but not too much that it completely spoils it. I am so excited for the RoTK EE coming out this December!!!:hyper:

Okay, I sound like a total nerd...oh well, I love it. What can I do?

I totally know how you feel! I've watched all the stuff on the extended DVDs for FoTR and TTT and it's not the same when you watch the movies over again!

That said....Can't wait for Exteded RoTK!!!

At least the exhibit got me off my Harry Potter fixation...

I am such a nerd, too.:wizard:

OMG - :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm cracking up because, I love Harry Potter, too! ESPECIALLY the third one. What's funny though is that I love all of these movies (HP's & LoTR's) today as an adult and I hated fantasy growing up. My DH-2-Be had to literally bribe me to go see the FoTR with him. He read LoTR as a kid and was really excited about it. Not even five minutes into it, I was totally hooked! Since I didn't read the books, it took me two or three times to really grasp what was going on, given all of the references that were from the book. Then when TTT came out, it helped clarify even more for me. By the time RoTK was out, I was an expert :o. The tables have turned and now I'm the bigger fan, he loves it, but I LOVE it! :p

So to make sure I let everyone know just how geeky I really am - we bought the Trivial Pursuit LoTR edition and I beat my DH-2-Be almost every time. Normally the winner would tease the loser, it doesn't work that way with us. Because it was such a struggle for him to get me to see just the first film, he rubs it in my face every single time and tells me that I've "crossed over"!

p.s. - I noticed your counter, you're going to be in my neck of the woods in just a few hours! I hope you have a great time on your trip! I'm sorry you won't get to see the castle, though
