Just got back last night from our trip to Ft. Wilderness & S. Carolina.

We stayed in the 300 loop (site 354). Our RV is 37 ft. with awning and 2 slideouts.

We were just two sites away from the comfort station.

The campground is the best we have ever stayed at so far ! Very clean (except for the people who let their dog poop right in front of the laundry area doors :sad2: ) and quiet (after the folks with the 3 barking dogs were told to leave by Ft. Wilderness).

We brought our dog Tala and she made several friends and loved the campground just as much as the rest of us !

There is so much to do at Ft. Wilderness that we could not do it all so I guess we will just have to go again :) !

If anyone has any questions just ask :flower: .

How were the comfort stations? I heard they were just renovated. How did the look?

The comfort stations are nice with green tile...

I want to hear gossip about the people told to leave. I didn't know disney did that. How do you know disney asked them to leave ?

FWCamper,
My DH asked a CM who was cleaning up the site that had the 3 barking dogs. A lot of people complained about them. They also did not clean up after their dogs. The CM was picking up dog poop and shaking her head in disgust.

big dogs, little dogs ???? I can't imagine a dog barking enough to get kicked out. Did they bark all night ? Most rv/tt really muffle the sound so you can't hear it. I have never been awoken by a barking dog, except in the am when the people are right next to me and i'm still in bed at 9am LOL

I am glad to hear people really complain and someone listens. Maybe Disney needs to send a set of "RULES" if you request a pet loop when they send you your reservation. And then give it to you again to sign at check in...Our critters are part of our family. It is cheaper to bring them, no sitter or boarding. You can't help where your dog goes, but you can always have a bag attached to the leash for cleaning up after them. Hats off to the people who took time from their vacation to complain. It is a shame that someone might go away with a bad experience because of someone else is not being a courteous dog owner.

FWCamper,
Two dogs were large and one was small. The dogs barked constantly. The owners would tie the dogs outside and leave for periods of time. They barked in their RV also which we could hear over our AC.

wildernessfamily,
Disney does have rules for people who bring their pets. Everyone who brings a pet into Ft. Wilderness has to read & sign an Agreement of Release and Indeminty.

Billmel,
We also have a bag holder attached to our dogs leash. FW also has bags avail. throughout the campgrounds for pet owners use.

I have two dogs; a shih-poo and a chihuahua puppy. The shih-poo is a barker. But, she has a bark collar and thus, doesn't bark anymore unless there is an intruder. The chihuahua doesn't appear to be a barker. The thing is though, knowing that Phoebe could have the propensity to bark, I have done something about it and would still not bring my dogs to FW. You're away from the campground too much to know what your dogs are doing. If they are potentially troublesome, you don't bring them. People who don't pick up after their dogs give all responsible dog owners a bad name. It really irks me pirate: I'm glad FW kicked the people out. What "me-first" kind of people. Yuck. :earseek:

Tricializ,

Please tell us more about the "bark collar". We have a 7 month old Yellow Lab weighing 50 pounds. She is well trained but will bark when lonely.

Beware of the "no bark collars". We purchased one for our dog and somehow it malfunctioned. It kept shocking the dog even though she was not barking. Needless to say, that collar when into the trash can. I would recommend the devices that are not attached to your dog that emit a high pitched sound when the dog barks. They are much more effective and don't have the potential to harm your dog.

We purchased a no-bark collar from Walmart originally for our Jack Russell Terror (oops I mean Terrier) because she would bark constantly. She only barked a few times before she learned not to. Now when she starts, we only have to pick it up and she stops as she doesn't want to wear it.

Hpyhiker,

We have an 85 lb. yellow lab. He is 18 months. We tried the bark collar on him and he figured out very quickly that if he shakes his head he can get it to spin around so the prongs are not on his throat and thus it will not work when he barks.

They are used for a training aid only - they are not intended to keep on the dog constantly. The intent is that they will learn not to bark. My lab all of a sudden turned into a watch dog when he hit just over a year old, and will bark at anyone who goes by.

I remember the paper about rabies shots and bordertella(if you are using the kennels) but I guess I don't remember the one about "pet rules". I know you must walk your pet in designated areas, and pick up after them and they are only allowed on certain loops. I remember reading that somewhere maybe on this site :rotfl: . My husband usually checked us in while the family went exploring..which may explain why I didn't see it...or else I was just in that Disney frame of mind and only thinking "happy thoughts"

The "Agreement of Release and Indemnity" that every pet owner checking in signs contains the rules.

Basiclly they are all common sence;

You must be with your pet when they are outside

They must be on a leash no longer than 8 feet

They are not permittet in a comfort station, recreation area or on a golf cart.

You must clean up after them

They are not permitted in tents or pop up campers*

*Now, I have talked with the FW CMs on many occasions and the no tents or pop ups is defined that they are not to be left alone in any canvas structure (Iguess this would include Hybrids also). We camp there at least once a year in a pop up and they have never said a word about us keeping Natasha in the pop up at night.

We hope to stay in loop 300 with our beagle. Unfortunately, we're not going til Dec. 2006 :guilty: We've currently got a 1977 Wilderness and next year is the year we're hoping to upgrade to a 5th wheel with a couple of slideouts.

I'm going to be requesting a site with a canal view - do you have any recommendations? All the maps I've seen just show the loops, not the actual site numbers. I understand there are sites on the inside and outside of the loop. Is there a set numbering system like even numbers inside, odd outside?

Any info would be most helpful! :earsgirl:
