Back from Disneyland and Vegas

I agree with your views on DL park, more intimate and perhaps dare I say (gasp) more magical than MK.

I also agree. I thought it was a step above WDW's Magic Kingdom, and I guess at least part of that is knowing that this was Walt's personal creation. We'll be back there in 10 day's time. Can't wait...

....... well that's it! I HAVE to go ...... we planned California a while ago but couldn't decide what to leave out...... the boys were younger and not very tolerant of long driving distances, but DH felt if we went there we'd have to fit in the lot : Disneyland, San Francisco, Monterey, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, the Redwood Forests (name escapes me... Sequoia National Park?), San Diego etc. etc. (....at least neither of us are that keen on visiting downtown LA or Hollywood  ).

I need to work on a new plan, omitting some of the above ....... we don't like it too too hot, so not a Summer holiday.

I would have loved to have gone to San Francisco as well Shirley but Paul couldn't take the extra time off work. I still want to see the rest of LA though - like Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive etc. And I would have loved to do Universal out there - we WILL be going back so there's always next time.

BUT Shirley the big question from me is "WHEN ARE YOU GOING BACK TO WDW??" LOL ;) ;)

I wouldn't say I was particularly impressed with downtown San Diego. Actually thought LA looked better and that's saying something. Hollywood is worth a visit just to say you've been, seen the hotel and the snobby shop in Pretty Woman and of course Mann's Chinese Theater which is not nearly as nice as the one in MGM! LOL

I'm sure Shirley, that we'd all be able to give you advice about getting there and the best things to do... just ask away! We are hoping to go back in the near future. Like I said, I have an exam to do in November in Vancouver most likely, so I had considered travelling down to LA from there for a stop off. We had also talked about going back to WDW either at that time (instead of LA) or going before then! erm, not sure my finances will hold up to that one, but I could try and push them if I don't spend ANYTHING between now and then!

John - your fellow hopeful Canadian

:bounce: ....please!

We hired a car from Alamo and I was absolutely scared to death at how we were gonna cope - Paul had driven in the US lots of times before but not for a while.

Alamo gave us a map and I had to work out very quickly the route.

Well I knew we had to get onto the 105 but I missed where it was first of all so we went around the block but Paul was fine and said that it gave him an opportunity to get used to the car.

The way I took us was :

105 towards Norwalk (unfortunate name) then

605 towards Long Beach but wasn't on there long then

91 East finally onto

5 which then has signposts to Disneyland, I think we came off on Habour Boulevard exit all the streets are named on the exits.

There were lots of cars on the road but we got there in about 45 minutes Paul said it was easy as all the exits and other routes were so well signposted - yeah as long as I was long out for them. As the navigator I never took my eyes off the road for one second ;)

Hope that helps

LOL Sam :teeth: ......... when I have a date, YOU'LL BE THE FIRST TO KNOW!!!!! :teeth:

Welcome back, Sam. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your trip.

Mystere was the first Cirque production I saw and it is awesome. I think it is much more dramatic than La Nouba, but I love La Nouba too.

Mystere was awesome Kath - I had never seen a Cirque production before so I really didn't know what to expect - but it had me laughing and absolutely rigid in my seat with amazement at how they did the things they did.

Really really good and I hope to book la Nouba for Paul and I in December.

Hi Sam,
Thanks for the driving directions hopefully we will get to the hotel in one piece.!!
