Wow, I really WAS tired when i posted that last one above, look at all the errors! Oh well, i slept good and can now start my trip report.
Sunday-8/25/02 We got to the airport at 6 am (Midway-Chgo) and met my sister and her family at the gate. We traveled with her and her husband and my three adorable nieces, 2 are twins, 6 years old and one is 2. This would be their 1st flight ever, so we didn't know what to expect. We flew Southwest, and because of the children were allowed to preboard and get good seats. The two year old (Nicole) loved flying, as did one of the twins (Jessie), they were screaming "this is fun, mom, this is fun!" as we took off, my other niece, Maria, who is usually the brave one, looked super nervous and just clenched her dad's arm. But all in all did ok. My DH slept most of the way as he always does. We got to MCO and somehow I got separated from the group, so I went to the Dollar Rental Car Area because that would be the next stop. The rental was quick and easy, we used our Fast Lane membership which put us at the front of the line and really helped to get processed quick, so I highly recommend becoming a member. We got a Dodge Neon, my sister got a Dodge Caravan. The cars were in perfect shape and had ample room. We headed over to CBR and my sister to AKL. This was day 1 of value season, the line was pretty long, like last year, we got in line about 20 to 1 PM and were set to go to our room by 1:30 PM. I had requested Jamaica, in particular building 45, but was told by a very nice CM that there are no king beds in 45, so we were given 46. 46 was perfect, we had a corner room, #4632 on the first floor. It was convenient to everything, the parking lot (this is a garden view room) the bus stop and OPR. It was peaceful and gorgeous! The room itself was spacious and perfectly clean. I was very satisfied as was DH. After we settled in and I took a few pictures, I called my sister. She was not in her room yet, but had checked and and was told her room would be ready between 3 and 5 PM. They had not made a room request, but paid for Savannah. The CM told her that if she could wait alittle bit, she would have a room that had an excellent view of the animals. So I told her to bring the gang over to CBR and we'd eat lunch. That is what we did. In fact, resort hopping was so easy, as long as you had that parking permit they give you in the windshield, you were just flagged through at the gate, no questions asked. We all walked down to OPR, it was a quick walk, the kids loved the ducks and we stopped to feed them. We all got something from the pizza place, their pizza is ok, not the greatest, but not the worst either. I also had an order of 2 breadsticks and marinara sauce, which was very good. I bought drink mugs again for me and DH, I couldn't fit our old ones in the suitcases, so I figured it's only $20...I refilled mine 4 times just at lunch, so mine was already paid for, DH filled his about the same. No one was checking at any time at all during our stay, to make sure you had a mug let alone one from last year. In fact, its so lax there that my brother in law, refilled his paper cup several times with no problem. He thought there were free refills like at McDonald's. After lunch my sister called and at about 3:30 her room was ready, so they went and got settled. DH and I went and unpacked our suitcases and moved ourselves in. At about 5:30 PM DH and I went over to AKL to meet my sister and make our evening plans. Like I said above, we were waved right through the gate at AKL, we parked and headed into the lobby. AKL is beautiful, but it's not my style, and I was glad that we didn't switch there, like we almost did when a good rate came out before our trip. AKL is very large and there are alot of rooms, but it has that "Hotel" feel....and is very dark, I guess because of the African theming. I called to my sister from the hotel phone in the lobby, and my BIL meet us and took us up to their room. It was a Savannah room, standard, Zebra Trail 4213, and it was too small IMHO. They had a queen bed and then a bunk bed like right next to it, it made me feel all stuffed in like sardines...our CBR room felt way bigger and we had a king bed! I was very glad I didn't change resorts now. They were on the 4th floor, and the interior of the room was also too dark for my tastes. I went to the balcony and saw animals, but for my taste, I doubt I will ever book a room at AKL. The walk to the lobby was kind of long too. We went downstairs and we sat on the big rocking chairs in the lobby area, and at 7:30 we went out to listen to the storytelling that was going on outside, it was kind of over the kids heads, but we walked around outside and saw some giraffe, and wildebeast and birds. My sister was satisfied, but her DH thought that CBR looked better and couldn't believe he paid alot more than we did and we got a bigger room and bed. Since this was Day 1, we didn't do any park hopping or anything, but went to International Drive and had dinner, we ate at TGIF's and then by 11:30 DH and I went back to CBR to relax. Day 2 coming later today and some pictures I took.
