Back from a cold WDW!

Thank goodness it is warming up today through the weekend. :goodvibes

I'm keeping an eye on the forecast for marathon weekend. I'm hoping for temps in the low or mid 40's for that weekend so the reports look promising but I could deal without the wind. After doing my last month of training in the teens temps in the 60's would be a disaster for my time.

Good luck! I'll be looking forward to hearing how you do.

What do you wear when you're running in the cold like that? Do you have anything on your head and face? I thought my nose was going to fall off for a while there.

I'm a diehard New Englander, but I swear, 40's in Orlando feels MUCH colder than 40's in Massachusetts! I was there the week after Thanksgiving, when this cold stretch started, so I know how chilly that wind is down there. Up here, if it's anything over 40 degrees, I'm thinking it's 'nice' weather!

This isn't the first time I have heard this. I worked for American Express, I was talking to a woman one night from WI. She was in Florida to escape the cold for the holidays, it was around 35 degrees and she complained that she was freezing. I laughed and said, I thought you were from WI. She said she was but that 35 down here in FL was way colder than the same temp up there, and she was looking forward to going home where she could get warm.

We do get the wicked wet wind and no matter what you have on, it just goes thru you.

No, I heat up pretty quickly when I run. If it were low 40's I'd be in shorts and a short sleves.

Once it drops down into the 20's I usually at least start with a hat and gloves. After a couple of years running through the winter in Cleveland you get used to it.

I was there too, Mushy! Ugh. So darned cold!!!! I was there last January (marathon week) and it was sleeting and freezing then too. It was just as cold this trip. I wore 4 layers every day and wanted my long underwear!! That wind is bitterly cold and cuts right thru ya!
I had some sort of respiratory thing going on anyway so it was pretty rough. I drank a lot of Nyquil and Dayquil, that's for sure!

Crowds were not bad. CP was great. Had good meals. Already booked another trip for Feb. so I'm hoping for mild weather then!

I am originally from WI and moved here 29 years ago (FL) I go skiing every winter in CO. and I can honestly say that I freeze down here as soon as it get's below 55! It's the dampness, and also because the buildings are built to stay cool (for the hot summers) This past week has been brutal for me, I too was at WDW last week and I was more than miserable, I was wearing my ski jacket, long johns, and gloves for the MVMCP last Thurs. and CP on Friday. My friends back in WI think I am nuts after all 55 is summer in WI. So I am glad someone else knows what it is really like down here....I am only hoping that we do not have a long cold winter like we did last year....although it is going to warm up this weekend, but I am sure there will be another front through again soon!

We're just back, and compared to Orlando at the beginning of this week, New York actually feels warm! :lmao:

Monday at WDW was absolutely the worst, what with the strong gales. The Orlando Sentinel had a front-page story saying that this was the coldest day in almost fifty years - since 1962. Brrr! The main problem was that most people pack for what they think will be mild weather. It seemed that about half of the people who showed up for Fantasmic were wearing blankets, making for a very wierd scene.

We headed for AK bright and early, hoping to see the animals, but it turned out that the animals had more sense then we did. They were all hidden away, trying to find a warm spot.

Oh, well. Time to plan the next trip ...

I was there Saturday through Tuesday as well. Monday was just downright rude..LOL. The wind was heinous. Being from NJ, I'm used to the cold and came prepared, but the wind was terrible. We planned on Fantasmic on Monday night but nixed it. We had no desire to sit on cold metal benches and potentially be sprayed by water in that cold..LOL.

I will admit, I did enjoy the cold on Sunday night at MVMCP, but wonder if the wind was the reason the pyro shot from within the park were cut mid-show from the finale of Holiday Wishes. Also, I'm glad we were able to see all the topiaries, flowers, etc. before they brought out the thermal blankets. Those blankets aren't very pretty..LOL

Were you at MK earlier in the day on Sunday? We got there at park opening and it was the absolute most perfect day I've ever seen there. Slightly chilly, and the park was practically empty until early afternoon. By the time the rain came, we had done everything we wanted to do, so we left.

We were at Animal Kingdom Sunday morning/early afternoon. Like you said, early Sunday was perfect. Great day to see active animals at AK! Then the rain hit and it wasn't so pleasant. It cold cold very quickly. But what can you do? We still had a blast!

Did anyone else see Whoopi Goldberg during their stay? She did an amazing job at the Candlelight Processional.

I saw Whoopi on Friday night and I have to agree I thought she did an amazing job...still had her sense of humor but still was very respectful and it seemed like she really got into the music.
