DH and I were at WDW last week, celebrating his recent retirement. We've never been to WDW in May (usually go early December or early January), so the heat was really different for us. I probably won't do a trip report, but just wanted to make a few observations.
Crowd levels were less than we expected. The longest waits we ever saw were 30-40 minutes for the most part. Fastpass return times were usually less than an hour out. We walked directly on to the R&RC twice, along with Mission: Space, Space Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain. Test Track broke down as soon as we got in the car the first time, and when we returned the next day, it was either still broken or had just gone down again, so we never got on it.
Soarin' is the best! This was the only ride we really had to fastpass, and it does save a ton of time. The ride was amazing and not to be missed.
Flower and Garden show was wonderful. All of the blooms and gardens were beautiful. Especially impressive is the Victoria Garden outside Canada. The best part was that the crowds didn't seem to be any higher in Epcot.
Carousel of Progress was open and is one of our favorites. Also a walk on, as was Buzz Lightyear most of the time.
Saw Wishes and Spectromagic, which I hadn't seen in years. We did skip Illuminations and Fantasmic. Much as I enjoy them, we have seen them several times, and between the heat and the walking, we were pretty beat by the end of the day. So we decided to follow our gut and take it easy back at the CBR in the evening.
Had lunch twice at ESPN Zone. Not at all crowded either time. Great place to eat, with all the monitors showing various sports events, and the boat ride over from either MGM or Epcot is always enjoyable.
We seemed to see more frustrated/impatient/angry parents than usual. Maybe it was the heat. I wish people could hear how they sound to others.
Lots of school groups on trips, judging by the flocks of identical tshirts, but they were never a bother.
I noticed that the snacks covered under the dining plan are very clearly marked now in most places. They are designated by the dining plan logo in places like the Fountainview Bakery and the food court at CBR. We weren't on the plan, but I imagine that makes it much easier for people who are.
Altogether a great trip. If I can help with any info for anyone, I'd be happy to.
