Babysitter picks up WRONG CHILD at school

Just how dumb is this kid! He didn't once say who are you? Hey why are we here this isn't my house! And why did he go with her and not his Grandma if thats who he goes home with.

If it is a plain elementary school and they just release the kids I don't blame the school.

They should have just kept the incorrect kid. Between him and the parents that hired the sitter, they seem perfect for each other. ;)

Very strange, but maybe the incorrect child was also used to having strange new babysitters pick him up? Also, they didn't mention it, but maybe there is a language barrier issue here? Maybe the sitter (or the child) speaks broken english?

I don't think it is the child's fault. He is FIVE. Unless his parent's taught him never to get in a car with a stranger or told him no one but his grandmother would ever be picking him up, he is not going to know that. I know how concrete my own five year old's thinking can be, and also how naturally trusting he still is as is normal for a child his age. If the woman only called out his first name, he would have had no idea she was not talking to him.

As far as why he didn't say it wasn't his house, he was probably thinking it was the babysitter's house. Babysitters don't always babysit at the child's home.

I can't believe parent's would hire a babysitter to pick up a 5 year old without them ever meeting before. What were they thinking?

This story just makes me want to go over all the "stranger" rules again with my son to help make sure nothing like this could ever happen to him. I can't imagine how scared the parent's of the "wrong" kid were when he "missing."

I just don't get it. How could all the adults involved, including the school screw this up?

Our school requires written notification sent by the parent/gaurdian on any changes of a child's pick up routine, with the name of the adult.

Then when that adult arrives, our kindergarten teachers request to see picture ID to match with the paperwork in their hands. The child is not released until the teacher is satisfied with the match up.

Our kindergarten teacher says she can't sleep at night if she didn't see her students walk off with the right people. She really takes her job to heart.

Exactly!

Not many bright people in this story. :dance3: :sad2:

I wouldn't blame the kid, he is 5. Some parents actually don't talk to their kids about stranger danger for fear that they may not understand or that it may frighten them.

There are so many things wrong within this story, I don't even know where to begin......

I am heartbroken to think that the other little boy waited "several hours" to be picked up. I don't know about the rest of you, but I made sure that the school always had updated contact numbers for my husband and I, and I sure as heck would have notified the school if somebody new would be picking up my children in case there was a mix up!

As a matter of fact, I asked a neighbor to pick my son up one day when he was in kindergarten. Her daughter was in the same class. I told the teacher, and confirmed with the parent both 2 days before, and the afternoon before she was to pick him up.She was to walk him to the sitter's (she was another neighbor). Imagine my surprise when I got a call from the sitter nearly an HOUR & Half after school got out (he was in half days) that she had just gotten back from getting him at the school. The neighbor, a complete IDIOT said " I didn't know if I was supposed to get him" I called the school FUMING because nobody called me. They had called the OLD number I had, despite having given them the correct one more than 3 weeks prior when I transferred. Their excuse: they don't update the files right away. They acknowledged that they HAD the information in the file, but that they hadn't updated it on the computer file. My son sat there, upset, for over an hour until they reached the sitter to come and get him, and she had to take the other 3 small kids in her care with her.

Nice, real nice. The kid is FIVE years old!!! Could be a lot of reasons he didn't say anything....sheesh.
