Hi all. I am wondering if there are any tips you guys have about special things that either our hotel (Dolphin) or any other WDW restaurants would be able to provide?

We are taking both of our sons to WDW in two weeks and our youngest is turning 1 on the 15th.

We'd like to also get him a small bday cake...something Dolphin would help with? Or is there a better option?

Also, do places on the resort ever do anything special for birthday boys and girls? thank you!

We took my son for his birthday to chef mickeys. Not only is there alot going on to keep your 1yr old entertained and the fact that it is a buffet so the little ones don't have to wait for their food to be prepared, because it was his birthday they had confetti on the table and a special place mat with all of the characters signatures(you get to keep this). They also brought out a special cupcake (perfect size for the little guys) with a candle. All of the characters paid alot of attention to him because it was his birthday. We really enjoyed the experience. I don't know if Dolphin will do this because it is not a disney hotel, but you can get a button that says today is my birthday and write his name on it. If dolphin doesnt have them all of the parks do at guest services. My son wore it and recd personalized happy birthday's all day long. It was really great.

At the contemporary, which is a monorail hotel. The monorail is my kids favorite ride, yes I know all that money for hotels and parks and my kids are happy with a round trip monorail ride. Go figure. If you go to the chef mickeys you can ride the monorail all the way around or stop off anywhere along the way, it stops at the polynesian, grand Floridian, Transportation and ticket center for MK or at the MK front gate. When you get in line head to the front where the monorail person is (not sure what the official title would be) and ask if anyone is already sitting in the front. We waited out 4 monorails before(they come a few minutes a part) and got to sit up front with the driver. It is a really cool ride. And if any of your children are about 3 and up they will get a kick out of the official co-pilot license you get when your trip is over. As I said they don't mind if you are only getting on to ride all the way around to where you started, so don't worry if you drive to the contemporary. You can get back to your car without any hassle.

hi...we stayed at the Boardwalk ...it's about a 5 minute walk to your hotel or you could always take the boat...the boardwalk bakery makes nice cakes...their cheese cake is the best I have ever had! Our friends little boy was turning 3 just after our trip...a CM asked him how old he was he told her it was his birthday next week...she then asked him who his favorite character was...later that day balloons and autograph picture of Buzz Lightyear saying Happy Birthday came to their room! He just turned six and still talks about his birthday gift from buzz!

If you wanted a character meal close to your hotel our friends enjoyed Goofy's Beach Bash breakfast at the Beach Club. We never ate there. I did eat at Chef Mickey's and I have to say it was our least favorite of all our meals on our last trip but it was because of service...or should I say lack of service.

Have a great trip!

if he can handle characters (i advise making an ADR far out enough that you can test the waters before forking over the money), crystal palace may be another alternative. aside from being more cuddly, they also give a keepsake in the form of a birthday card signed by the characters. they also periodically do a birthday march around the restaurant i believe.

as far as ordering a cake goes, the sticky at the top of this forum gives more info than you could possibly ever hope for..

When you say the 15th, did you mean of April:eek: I wouldnt bet on getting any decent ADR times. Luckilly, if you havent made any ADR yet, there is plenty to choose from in terms of counter service meals, as well as the option of dining outside of WDW, if you have a car or hire a taxi.

Do they know at the Dolphin that you're celebrating a b-day? They **might*** put a little card, or maybe even balloons in the room (certainly not garunteed, unless you call Disney Florist, and pay for it) You could arrange for a nice gift basket to be delivered to the room as well.

You can get a birthday button, and wear it *for* Ds, maybe on your backpack, if not your shirt, with DS name on it. He'll get lots of **happy birthdays** and maybe cupcakes at TS meals (if you have any TS planned)

If you do have an ADR for character meals (Chef Mickey's or Crystal Palace, for example) try putting the little ones on the inside of the table. Not so close to where the characters will be comming to you to visit. If they are scared of the characters, at least they will be on the other side of the table, and not directly in DS face:scared1:
