Just to remind you who is on this trip, it's myself, DH, DS-11 (the arguer, aka Daniel), DD-6 (the helper, aka Holly), DD-1 (the birthday girl, our little alarm clock, aka Ella).
I'm not really sure what time it was, I think maybe 1:00a.m. I heard this splattering, splashing, barfing sound coming from the end of my bed. It was Daniel. DH sits up and yells "run, get out of here, get to the bathroom bonehead!" He's so nurturing that way. Daniel threw up the entire way to the bathroom, in the vanity area, all over the bathroom floor. Everywhere but the toilet.
I cleaned him off and put him back to bed. Then I made a towel walkway over all the wet spots. We have no more towels. It's the middle of the night, what else could I do?
My stomach felt a little funny now, but whose wouldn't after that? I got some Tums and propped up my pillows to sleep sitting up, determined not to throw up. DH went in the bathroom and drank Ginger Ale to get himself to throw up again. He wanted to get it over with. It worked. So did my trick, I never threw up.
I think we made it to morning at that point. I didn't really do much sleeping though, just waiting and watching over the kids. Holly and Daniel moaned in their sleep alot. Ella tossed and turned and whimpered.
I think Ella woke up about 8:30, crying real hard. She was HOT! Then Holly, HOT too. We didn't have a thermometer so DH went down to the Sundries store at GF and bought the only thing they had. It was a little piece of film with a few numbers, looked like camera film. You put it on your forehead and the color changes according to how hot you are. Everyone's temp was around 102 except Holly's was 104. Everyone's chest hurt and we had headaches and coughs and bodyaches. This was no Ella bug.
I called home to the Pediatrician and waited what seemed like an eternity for a return call. After hearing our symptoms, he said it sounded like flu, except for the stomach troubles. He said if it got worse instead of better in a day or two, especially in your chest it may be the flu. So we started giving out doses of Tylenol and Advil and went back to bed. Holly and Ella's temps weren't coming down so we had to do the horrible luke-warm-bath-that-feels-like-ice-when-you're-that-hot to both of them. Terrible. I wanted to cry.
We asked housekeeping to take away the nasty towels and felt so horrible about it. We told them we needed to vacuum some of it up. They came to do it themselves but we insisted on letting us do it.
We pretty much stayed in bed all day. We were supposed to go to MVMCP that night so DH went out once to Guest Services at MK at some point to exchange our MVMCP tickets for Tuesday night. The rest of the time we were all in our beds sleeping and watching some really bad Christmas movies on ABC Family channel. Our temps remained around 101 most of the day. No more stomach troubles though. Terrible headaches, body aches and most of all it hurt so bad to cough.
Around 5:00 or 6:00 I felt like I could walk a little. The kids started moving around some and DH felt better too. We decided to leave the room long enough for housekeeping to get us fresh sheets and more towels and cups.
But where could we go? Definetly not a park. It seemed like we walked forever just to get to the van which DH had pulled up to the entrance of GF for us.
I really felt alive and good being outside in the fresh air. We drove over to an outlet mall that's really close. Theres a Disney Character outlet there. Worth going to if you ever get the chance. There are things in there that are still in the stores in the parks, only way cheaper. The kids looked tired again already, so even though DH and I felt better we promised to just go in the one store and leave. There were some pretty good deals. I bought a few things and we left. My energy was already starting to leave me.
There was a Walgreens across the street so we went in to get some more meds. We bought a new forehead scanning thermometer that's really cool. Dropped about $90 in the Walgreens and went back to the hotel.
The Christmas music in the Grand Floridian was very uplifting.
There was a bell choir waiting to perform and I really wanted to stay and listen. Daniel was just about lifeless, but Holly and Ella seemed to feel pretty good. We took Daniel back to the room.
It felt so wonderful to walk back into a clean room. Bless their hearts, the housekeepers left us a huge pile of GF chocolates on the bed. Couldn't eat them, but it was so nice of them.
We left Daniel in bed (don't shake your head at me, hes 11 and we were only going down for 15 minutes). The rest of us went back to the main building and listened to the music and took a few pictures.
Holly felt really good. She was back to performing cheers along to Christmas songs and telling bad knock-knock jokes.
The gingerbread house is something to see. The bell choir didnt show and it was almost time for "Survivor" so we headed back to the room. At least we get to see the "Survivor" finale. We are big Survivor fans.
Ella threw up on me a little and then went right to sleep just as "Survivor" came on. I felt guilty, but that was a treat! I usually have to watch my favorite show while entertaining her. DH was ready to eat so he went down and got a grilled cheese and brought back a popsicle and some ice cream for Holly and I. I couldn't taste it but it felt good going down my sore throat.
Everyones temps were staying down around 101 and DH's was
99. Daniel and Holly were coughing their heads off. This I was certain would wake up Ella and then no one would get any sleep. I forbid anyone from coughing in the bedroom area. That's right, if you need to cough, you have to get up and go in the bathroom, shut the door quietly and then cough to your heart's content.
To help them from having to do this all night, I had bought some Children's cough syrup. Holly took her's without an issue. She's such a good girl.
Daniel is another story. He's a wrestling match. One arguement after another- he won't cough, he feels fine now, he'll keep water by his bed and take a drink instead of coughing, he'd rather just get up and go in the bathroom to cough.... On and on. He hates any red "cherry" medicines. I know this, but my head isn't on right today and I bought red. I finally forced him to take it and within 2 seconds, he threw it up! We were standing in front of the double-bowl vanity. He threw up all over the top, every bottle, cup, spoon, the faucet, the coffee pot, everything got thrown up on, except the actual bowl of the vanity! I love my son!!! "Fine", I tell him, "but you're taking it again. You will take this medicine if I have to go though the whole bottle!"
DH came in for a minute and offered his usual helpful insults toward our poor son and then went back to his bed. I love my husband!!! I gave Daniel another dose, told him to use the bathroom and go to bed. I cleaned up the vanity area and washed and dried everything off. He was in the bathroom rather long, and knowing my son as I do, I got suspicious. I knocked on the door and demanded he let me in.
He had thrown it up again. He's in the bathroom, toilet in front of him. He missed the toilet! It's all over the back of the toilet, but the bowl itself remained clean and tidy! I LOVE my son!!! I gave him another dose and this time I stayed with him, standing in front of the toilet and coached him to keep it down. "You can do it Daniel, it's Ok, stay calm and breathe, it's just cherry, it's not something bad." "Don't say cherry!", he cries. "You want me to throw up again?" I sent him on to bed and cleaned up the floor. We're out of towels again.
I took my beloved Nyquil. Ahhhhhh, that hit the spot. It is my best friend tonight.
A whole day at Walt Disney World, a whole day gone and we never set foot on a single park, ride, monorail or any of that fun stuff. But we figured wed be ready to roll in the morning after a good nights sleep. Must just be some little 24 hour bug. Yeah right. It's not over yet.
I'm not really sure what time it was, I think maybe 1:00a.m. I heard this splattering, splashing, barfing sound coming from the end of my bed.
