Baby wearing in the parks

I have a mei tai which is so comfortable over long periods. However, it can be a bit of a faff to get on and off, so I've recently bought a Connecta for our holiday. It works in much the same way as a mei tai but instead of having straps that need to be tied, it has buckles at the waist and straps.

I 'babywear' on a regular basis but have not done so at the parks yet. My 19 month old still prefers to be on me rather than a stroller and most times I find it much easier too. We just switched from a ring sling to the Ergo. I found she was getting a little too long for the sling and neither of us were very comfortable. I love the Ergo! She rides in it for extended periods of time (grocery shopping, mall trips, etc) without a complaint. She is able to see her brother and sister and be at eye level with them (they are 7 and 9), which she loves. I will be using the Ergo during her first trip to WDW in December. I think it will make things easier for us!

Hello, we have a new daughter and we are thinking about taking a baby carrier to Disney. We have one that only alows her to face in. I want her to face out and experience movies, rides, etc. So I think we'll buy a new one. My main question is:

Can you ride rides with the baby on you. For example, it's a small world? What about rides like Peter Pan where a bar comes down. Can she stay in her sling while we ride?

Thanks for your help

Steven...

Oh, and she will be 7 months old when we go in June if that matters?

For those who used a Beco...did you wear baby in front or on your back? My son will be 11 months old by the time we go, and although I prefer him in the front so I can see what he's doing, I'm not sure he'll want to be facing me most of the time? Did you wear them on your back? If so, how do you make sure they're hat is still on properly, etc...If I could wear him facing out, that would be the best solution...but the Beco doesn't work that way.

When she was really awake, I wore her on my back, but when she was getting tired, I put her on the front and let her fall asleep there. Worked perfectly.

You can wear a baby on most rides. I wore my 22 month old daughter nearly our whole trip last spring. She walked a little, but we didn't take a stroller. Toy Story Mania was the only ride where I had to take her out. Everything else she rode while in a carrier worked out fine and was allowed. She was about 25 pounds at the time. We used a Bamberoo Mei Tai. It is a little bit taller and wider than some mei tais and worked great! We are headed out tonight again!! Yeah! No stroller again - just the bamberoo and a wrap.

anyone have a suggestion for a sling or hip carrier for a 30ish pound mommy clingy 4 yr old?

For a hip carrier...You might look into a Scootababy. It has a weight limit of 37 pounds. I've not heard anything but positive reviews for it. Most say its THE best hip carrier. I'm waiting for mine to be delivered.

After reading this thread I decided to try out baby wearing. I'm sure Disney isn't the place to try it but I wanted another option. We are heading to Disney Friday with our 3 kids, my nephew (16 months), and my mother. My sister has to work and couldn't get off. I take care of my nephew everyday and she doesn't have any other options for child care since she works nights. So, he is going with us. He is at the age where he isn't going to want to stay in the stroller the entire time. The crowds will be too much for him to try walking. I called a friend today who works in a baby consignment shop. She shipped me one today. I should get it Thursday. They had the Infantino side rider. Has anyone tried this one? I'm willing to give it a try for short periods of time in the parks to give him a break from the stroller. :scared1: I'm a bit nervous!

Baby wearing saved our trip! :)

DD was really young (6 mo) but an old soul. She hung with everything we did, but the worst part of the trip for her was being confined to the stroller the whole time. The first day it was raining on and off all day, so she was in the stroller. The next day was brutally hot, so again, we kept her in the stroller under the canopy and as cool as possible. By day 3, she had NOTHING to do with the stroller! Once the weather relaxed, we were able to wear her all day and she couldn't have been happier.

I'm all for it to give the kiddos a break from being cooped up. I know we want them out and about as often as we can, but frankly, it can be unnerving with the crowds. I say go for it. It sounds like an excellent option for your family.

Have a great trip!

Don't worry about the baby wearing, it's actually a lot easier than it sounds. Dneph is 16 months?

We were at Disney Easter week 2009 and it was crazy busy! We had DS (2.5) and DD (6 mo) in tow. Luckily we didn't have to worry about DD needing to stretch her legs, but we did "wear" her (see post above). DS actually wore a harness (I know... I know...) not because he's a flight risk, but it made him feel better to know he couldn't easily get separated from us if he wanted to walk a bit.

One of the places that was invaluable to us were the walking trails at AK. Everyone was focused on the thrill rides and shows and so the trails weren't that busy (maybe 1 was...). We would let DS out of the stroller, without the harness and let him explore. It was probably one of my favorite moments of the trip. He was able to walk around and take a good look at his surroundings.

If you can, maybe give the walking trails a try to let him out and untethered.

Best of luck and have a great, safe trip!
