What toy does your 1 year old love? My DB and SIL just adopted a 1 year old boy. They got him on his first birthday, which was a couple weeks ago. I haven't been able to see him yet because I've been sick. If I'm well enough, I'll be able to see him Saturday for his belated bday party. I want to get him a toy(s) that he'll really like. What do you suggest?

They like things that they can push (toy mowers -those popcorn things) stuff like that. If he isn't walking -he will be soon

Also if you want to be practical -eating things, cups, divided plates, spoons -they have character ones that are really cute.

Is he walking yet? Any sort of walking toy is great. My DS had the Stride to Ride Lion and he still rides it around!

I have purchases the following things for niece and nephew and their respective parents claim the kids enjoy them.

Stacking toy. Cups are stacked up together then can also bu put togetehr to make little rolly balls.

My nephew enjoys his wheel pals. (the link here is expensive but you can find them much cheaper.... i just agve the link for the picture)

I also got him the little one and he carries them with him since they are the perfect size for his little hands.

Also got this for my niece. Classic toy.

Not to hijack, but if anybody here knows of some good quality wooden pretend food sets I am looking to get 2 yr old niece some pretend play food for christmas. :-)

DD has the corn popper and the push and ride car PP's mentioned. She loves both. She also loves the Playskool Choo Choo Train http://www.amazon.com/Playskool-Busy-Ball-Choo-Train/dp/B001KKIHGI
It moves around, plays a couple of tunes and the balls swirl around the stack.

She likes these chunky Playskool trucks. They sell them individually at Walmart, but for reference this is what they look like

And for the ULTIMATE mickey fan:

My IL's got it around Christmas at TRU, Target or Walmart (the only places they shop). This is a huge hit with DD and you can put toys inside the seat, the propeller moves, lots of songs, Mickey talking.

Good luck, there are a ton of toys out there, I'm sure you'll find something he will love!

ETA: if you're a BJ's member, they sometimes have toy sets with a bonus, like the choo choo train, a spinner toy and stacking cups in one.

My DS has that truck along with the little ones and still loves them too. I bought it at Target for much less!!

Melissa and Doug have some nice wooden food sets. Some are cutting sets but they do have regular ones, just harder to find!

I forgot the other most obvious toy my DS loves .... his shopping cart!! If your nephew isn't walking yet it might not be time for one but my DS has had one since he was about 18 months old and LOVES it. He goes pretend shopping in the kitchen, he pushes his other toys around, he chases the cat with it and currently he is hammering the wheels pretending to fix it since he tripped over it. He thinks it's broken since it was in his way!!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

He's not walking yet. I guess the doctor told them not to let him use a walker yet. I'm not sure if that means the one they sit in or the one they walk behind and push. :confused3 So, I think I'll stay away from both for now.

I had one of those Fisher-Price poppers when I was a baby. :)

DS received a Playskool Ball Popper for his first birthday and he played with it for 2 years! He loved the music and watching the balls go through the toy and pop out the top. It was good exercise for him to crawl/walk after the balls and bring them back and put them into the toy again. He actually learned to stand by holding on to the top edge of the ball popper (it's gave him just enough support to stay upright). Even now, at 4.5yo, he will play with it when I get it out for his friend's younger siblings to play with. I will warn you though that it takes 4 D batteries if I recall, so you might want to buy a big pack at Sam's Club if that's an option.

Here's the ball popper: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/177-6007180-7784612?ASIN=B00007G39I&AFID=Froogle&LNM=B00007G39I|Hasbro_Playskool_Busy_Ball_Popper&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B00007G39I&cpng=plusbox&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

Here's a link to a $5 off printable coupon for it (if your store will accept them): http://print.coupons.com/couponweb/Offers.aspx?pid=13306&zid=iq37&nid=10&bid=alk06090906264f90c64924419 (it's at the bottom of the page)

Books are also a great gift and would be nice for helping with bonding and cuddle time. Let me know if you'd like some suggestions for that age.

Another vote for the Playskool Ball Popper. It was my oldest DD's favorite for her first bday. My DD(9 months) seems to really like it, although she can't quite push the button yet.

My kids played with this from about 8 months old (we had the legs off so they could sit and play) until we took it away from the youngest at 2.

The Leap Pad LeapStart Learning table was cool!! And once they are standing and starting to walk it gets more exciting for them because they can walk around it to do different toys.

My kids also loved all kinds of piano toys. This was the big favorite:
http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Rock-Play-Piano/dp/B00005YVRL

We had others that were walk along toys be V-Smart, but those got really annoying as they made a lot of noise and it was loud.

The buzy ball popper. IT says not for under 3 but we have one at the center I work at. I guess I would just supervize with the balls. LeapFrog® Learn & Groove Musical Table is popular. Oh and those little people. Our kids LOVE the horse. I think the only other thing they play with alot is the LeapFrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set, its fun till they stick them on the side of dryer and loose them LOL.

My grandson is 13 months old and he loves his Fisher Price Little People. He has about a dozen of them and he loves to set them up on his play table or put them in the back of his trucks and push them around.

He also loves to push his Little Tikes walker around the house. He has been walking unaided for about a month, but he can really take off with that walker! I have to watch him around the cat though. He'll spot the cat and get a gleam in his eye and I just know he's going to go after the poor kitty.

Now that I think about it, he loves to push just about anything around the house- his stroller, high chair, small chair, laundry basket, toy baskets, anything that he can get behind and move!:rotfl:
