Baby Swap and Stroller access?

So... even though I've read about it, I'm still confused. How does the baby swap work? I've read that one parent waits at the end of the ride and then gets on. This can't work right with every ride (ie PoC). Can someone explain it better?

Also... if we're doing the baby swap, is it possible to bring the stroller on line with us? My son weighs 30 lbs and I certainly don't want to hold him while waiting in lenghthy lines.

How does fastpass play into all this?

Hopefully you can shed some light on this for me. I'm a plan-a-holic and I'd just like to have an idea of how this is going to work ahead of time. THANKS!!!

Baby swap works a little differently for every ride. For example, on most rides you are basically just given a fastpass. The first rider goes through the regular ride and then the second rider goes through the fastpass lane. It's kind of a pain because you both have to go through the preshow stuff seperately so it always seemed to take a lot of time. Star Tours at MGM was the only ride that we went on that allowed all three of us to go up to the ride, have one of us ride, and then literally hand over the baby to each other. Another thing, I'm not sure, but I think that Baby Swap is only available on rides with height restrictions so you wouldn't get one for something like POTC (but I could be wrong about this).

As for strollers in the line, for the most part, you will be leaving the stroller at the entrance. Exceptions that I can think of...the Safari ride and It's Tough to Be a Bug at AK. On those attractions, you take the stroller through most of the line and they have attendants take it from you near the end of the line. If you are worried about holding your child in line, you might want to invest in a carrier for toddlers (like a Hip Hammock or something).

Our experience is that we are able to take DD11 months on the majority of the rides without height restrictions. She did accompany us on POTC so I don't know about the swap for that. On rides that we couldn't go as a family (SM, Splash, BTMR, RR, HTH, Dinosaur, Triceritops Spin, and a few others I hink) we got fast passes (we were a group of 3 adults plus baby) and then approached the appraoched the Cm who handed us a baby swap pass with our group number on it. Then either my DH and I, DH and SIL, or SIL and I would ride the ride while one would wait with the baby. At that point the next group of two would take thw baby swap pass to the fast pass line and would ride. It wa snever a problem.

As for the stroller it is left at the stroller areas. On this trip DD will be 13 months and 23 pounds so she won't be light. Holding her will get tyring but on some of the rides we'll be bringing (as long as permitted) her Kelty backpack. One person might ride with it and the other with the baby as ours isn't too much of a space saver when collapsed.

My DS is 25 lbs now (11.5 months old) and I'm planning to take my Maya Wrap sling to hold him in any lines we need to wait in (we're going in May). It works great for distributing his weight and helping me to hold him for extended periods of time. I highly recommend one!

First off no, you can't take a stroller in any line with you and there are also some pavillions in Epcot and a few other places where strollers are not allowed. I recommend using a sling or snugli in addition to a stroller to wear baby in line, on some rides anyplace you can't take the stroller.

Babyswap (rider-switch) is terrific but can only be used on attractions with a height restriction. So in your example of POTC - you won't have the option to use it. You can however take your baby on any ride without a height restriction, mine loved everything!

Rider switch, baby swap etc - wonderful for families!

Here is my attempt at an explanation:

First, my advice is to always check with a CM at the ride you are interested in using the swap for before you stand in line, (fastpass, single or standby). Tell them you want to baby swap (rider switch) and see how they want to handle it. Nobody wants to stand in line only to find out baby swap isn't offered or they handle it differently.

Even if you rode the ride yesterday using the baby swap I would still ask again today because different cm's sometimes handle it different ways. It varies from attraction to attraction and even from day to day but IMHO it always works well.

In my experience only rides with a height restriction offer rider switch and only if you have the child who dosen't meet the requirement with you. We made the mistake once of sending my sil and dear neice for an ice cream before asking about the swap pass only to be asked where the "baby" was. So be sure to get the pass before you send the other half off to the meeting spot.

The most common way to do the switch when a child is to small to ride is to give you a rider swap ticket for the second parent to use later the same day for that attraction only. It works like a Fast Pass but for up to three people and with no time limit. A very few rides still have you wait at the exit and switch with the other party but most rides now use the rider swap ticket. (I think Star Tours still does it this way.)

I prefer the rider swap ticket as we didn't have to entertain toddlers in line for an attraction they couldn't ride. Instead, after we got the switch pass we went for ice cream, to see a show, change a diaper - you get the point, while the other party rides. Then later in the day the other parent rides while the parent who rode first entertains baby.

If a child is tall enough to ride but chooses not to you will all need to wait the line and switch at the exit. In this case using a fast pass works better!

Hope this helps!
