A friend is expecting in January and created a baby registry on Amazon. However, in the narrative at the top, she said she'd really prefer secondhand, handmade, recycled items. I thought that was a cool idea. I found one of her items second hand and was able to mark on the registry that I'd gotten it without having to purchase through Amazon. I thought this was kind of a cool idea. My family is big on giving nice gifts for baby showers, but none of us mind giving or getting secondhand items. Unless an item is used for several children, it's unlikely to wear out!

I know some people think registries are great, and some people think they're tacky, but I thought this was a nice way to let people know that mom would appreciate secondhand items, and let the far away friends and relatives know what she needs/wants for baby.

What a wonderful way to get the word out. Maybe this would be a new trend! I really do think it's a great idea. Wish more new moms would do this.

Love that idea!

that's a really awesome idea! I always see practically brand new baby stuff...seems like a waste to buy new.

That is very cool! I cringe every season when I box up all the clothes ds has outgrown in just a few months and I have to start buying more. It's even worse for all the stuff!

As long as car seats aren't among the items being purchased second hand, I'm all for that! :goodvibes

(Using a car seat that has not been in a crash and has not been mishandled from someone you KNOW and TRUST is fine...i.e. using a seat your sister, who you trust implicitly, used for your 1 year old niece or whatever...but from a second hand store or tag sale, craigslist or other where you are getting from a stranger is a definite danger.)
