Hi!! This is my first post in the family thread for some time...I have been spending time in the Wedding & Honeymoon area for the past year plus. See...my DW and I share a love for Disney so there was no better engagement location than the MK and subsequently, no better wedding venue for us than the World. We had an AMAZING wedding...truly.

The magic continued and a month after our amazing wedding, we were pregnant...with twins. Whoa!!

They are due 7/27 but we won't get there. At 34.5 weeks, they will be here shortly.

So...we sort of are in a name bind. First, for those who don't know our story, we are a blended family. Though friends, we officially started dating after we overlapped our separate Disney trips. We each have one child from our first marriages and wound up at Disney for one overlapping weekend...my last weekend there with my daughter on an annual fall trip...and her first with her son. So, Disney is VERY special to us.

So, we are having boy/girl twins. And we have decided the boy's name will be Riley and the girl will be Quinn. We have talked about those names for a long time and we love them. Having a daughter, it was hard for me to think of boy names but I really got behind Riley, despite it having many girls with the same name. We actually know of more boy Rileys than girl Rylies. Anyway, we originally thought of some middle names that for us, flowed with their names, balancing the syllables...a two syllable first name with a one syllable middle name and a one syllable first name with a multi-syllable middle name.

So, originally, we thought Riley Chase and Quinn Kennedy....but....

we have received some negative feedback. Not that it matters, we won't name them to please other people, but it has given us some pause. We have kept the names a secret, telling only our mothers. We are truly set on the first names as we have had them since the news of the double pregnancy hit, but the middle names gave us room for some creativity. As my DW and I discussed the options, we thought about what was special to us and it was Disney. So, we sat outside tonight and contemplated some Disney middle names to represent our love for Disney.

Keeping with a similar desire to balance the syllables, we came up with Riley Flynn and Quinn Aurora.

Just wondering what you thought of the original names, the new Disney-fied names, or anything.

We're excited so all opinions are ok. We just wanted to share and get input. Thanks for listening to the ramble.

I love unique names! We're actually naming our baby after my favorite hockey player. It's actually the Canuck's last name so it's different.

Anyways, I love the Disney choices over the original! Congrats to both of you :goodvibes

I a little mixed, I love Riley Flynn but like Quinn Kennedy better than Quinn Aurora.

I love your choice of names! We have a little Riley Patrick. It was a toss up with him between Finn and Riley as a first name so I love your name of Riley Flynn!

Can I ask if there is a special meaning behind Chase and Kennedy? Why were those names originally chosen?

My DH and I just went through picking a name for our son. We were given some good advice from friends. Keep it secret and don't tell anyone - including mothers. Why? One friend told his mother the name they chose for their daughter and she promptly began telling people how much she hated the name thinking she'd convince them to change it. But she didn't. So now my friend's wife remembers that her mother-in-law hates her daughter's name. Another friend said they had picked one name but when they met their son, they realized that his name was Gabriel instead of the family name they had chosen. That also got some awkwardness.

But since you're looking for opinions, I liked Riley Flynn and Quinn Kennedy. :littleangel:

Great question...no special names. It literally was trying to get a name that 'sounded good' with their first names.

I prefer Riley Flynn to Riley Chase. I think it has more of a masculine sound to it.

I'm not crazy about Quinn Kennedy....to me this combo sounds too masculine even though both names are used for girl names. Just something about the two together is a bit over the top...for me. I like the idea of using a more feminine middle name with Quinn since Quinn has more of a "hard" sound. Not sure I'm crazy about Quinn Aurora, but I do like it better than Quinn Kennedy.

Good luck...names are just hard and for sure you are never going to make everyone happy. At least you guys are agreeing on names. Both of my children were named after birth because my dh and I could not agree to save our lives! lol

That is really great advice and advice, for the most part, that we followed. Our moms only found out because my DW's mother was guessing and when she hit on Riley, my DWs laugh and face gave it away..a mom knows her daughter!!! So, then we thought it was only fair to tell my mom too. So, except for our moms (no dads) and our very close friends, we didn't tell anyone else. But, I got a little ancy and thought I would float out the names for other 'anonymous' people just to guage reactions.

I appreciate any commentary...whether the person agrees or not, I just want to 'vet' the names out there. The only reason we are thinking about changing is because of a comment we had read about a name 'meaning something' and since we aren't using family names, we kicked around some names that meant something to us and this is what the result was. The more we talked about it, the more we really fell in love with them so we just wanted to hear people's thoughts. No one..not moms or friends even knows about the middle name switcheroo :confused3!!

Thanks so much for giving us your thoughts...we're still completely undecided.

Thanks for your opinions. We really appreciate them. Good points, for sure. I am not sure my DW would tell you that this has been better because we agreed. I have a mental block when it comes to boys names. It took a LONG time to get to Riley and I had to let it sit before I agreed to it. My wife would not say it was easy to get there!!!

I like middle names to either have meaning, or be simple (ours are all simple, and 4 have meaning). That said, I prefer Riley Flynn, and I'm not fond of either female middle name. How about Elizabeth.

I think the boy name flows nicely, but Quinn Aurora doesn't flow to me... Have you thought about Quinn Rose? (like Briar Rose) It still has a little Disney!

Thanks....good thoughts on the middle being one or the other. DD and DW have the middle name Elizabeth so we thought we'd let her have her own. But it's a beautiful name, we agree.

We hadn't thought about that, but it is pretty. With a one syllable first name, we felt strongly for balance, to give a multi syllable middle name. We picked Aurora over Quinn Cinderella!!! But, Rose is a pretty name so thanks for the suggestion..we really do appreciate it.

My name's Rosalie :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

I say go with the 'new' middle names. They are nice names that have a nice hidden 'meaning'!

I like Quinn Rose too. I also like "Aurora Quinn" better than "Quinn Aurora", it flows better off my tounge. I had an Italian friend named Aurora. It is a beautiful name that means dawn.

Aurora is a beautiful name, for sure. We love that it means dawn.

Thanks for the input. Interesting to think of it the other way around.

I LOVE the name Aurora. I wanted it as a choice for a girl when I was preg. with my youngest, but husband didn't like it. I like the way Aurora Quinn sounds, better than Quinn Aurora. I do like the way Quinn Kennedy sounds, but I do think it sounds masculine because of the hard first letters.

It has taken posting it and getting the feedback to realize the hard letters in QK give the name a masculine feel. It still has a special place in my heart..I was already calling her Quinnedy! So, we're still thinking about things, weighing all of our options. The feedback here has been great so we appreciate it.

I'm odd in that I'm a fan of traditional boy names, yet love the trendy girl names that are out now. So while Riley isn't my favorite first name for a boy, I really like Riley Flynn! I really like Quinn, too, but I prefer Quinn Rose (as one PP suggested) to Quinn Aurora or Quinn Kennedy. That's a mouthful!

Whatever you go with, make sure they make you and your wife happy first and foremost. You will never please everyone (as I'm sure you are well aware ;)).
