has anyone taken ready made baby milk into America, I know we can take powdered milk but would idealy like to take the ready made milk in cartons that we use routinely, we would need to take about 60 cartons in our checked luggage.

tbh I wouldn't bother seeing as how your cases get bashed about when they are packing them into the plane. Also 60 cartons of milk is going to make your case rather heavy! We took 4 tins of Farleys powder for our 3 week trip. This was just about enough. It was easier to just buy a milk powder dispenser from Boots or somewhere similar and measure the amount we needed and take water in bottles to mix it with on the move.

My daughter was 10 months when we went last year and still having milk 3 times a day, i took a tin for morning and night in the hotel room and a box of sachets to take out during the day. I used to take a small flask of hot water and a sachet out with me and just mix it when i needed it.
I agree that 60 cartons would be very heavy and you risk them leaking, we did buy some cartons after we got though security at Gatwick but just enough for on the plane and for coming back aswell to make the journey a bit easier.
My little girl likes warm milk so just had to put it in an ice bucket for a few minutes to cool a little, but if your little one normally drinks it cold i can see that boiling a kettle and waiting for it to get cold may take a while.
Try not to worry about it, i'm sure it will work out fine whatever you do, taking a baby was alot easier than i thought it would be.

If your baby likes the milk warm and you are at a park then most of the restaurants are happy to give you a cup of hot water to warm it up in too.

Hi - Just came back last week and we took about 20-25 ready made cartons (for the days we were in hotels/cruise ship where boiling water wasn't so easy - no problem at all and because they were small cartons we split them throughout all our luggage and it was fine!!):thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Many thanks for all your help, will take a combination of both. Off to the Dolphin July 4th!!!!:cool1:  :woohoo:

thats good to know as i will have a 9mth old with us when we go next sept ......where do i get the sachets from ......any boots or supermarket ?

i think most places do them these days, very convenient and easy to use.

about the sachets - it probably won't affect you - but it did us - we use SMAWhite and it appears they have discontinued the sachets for that type of milk (not sure why as it seems you can still buy SMA gold and Sma progress ones) - we were lucky and managed to get hold of a few, but we still had to take a big tin as well - the sachets were great and saved lots of time counting out scoops!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

yes that would affect me as i will be using sma white for baby ........but no harm in taking the tins and maybe a couple of cartoons for the flight out .

I took some cartons for the flight and wasn't allowed to take them on due to the liquid restrictions, I had to decant what I could into a bottle and Harley had to drink it there and then, I think they confiscated about 5 cartons - luckily I had counted out some scoops into my powder dispenser, or I don't know what I would have done!

If you want SMAwhite for the flight out you can buy it in Boots when you get through to duty free. I phoned them 5 days before our flight and they reserved 4 cartons for me - but to be honest they had plenty on the shelves. :)

Coming back they were fine about me taking cartons through - the only query was the cup of water I had for the baby (I still boil and cool water for him to drink) - they wanted to throw it away but I said I was willing to drink some to prove it was ok and they just waved me through with it!!):thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

you were very lucky then ......when we went in 06 on the return journey i had two baby bottles of boiled water for littling and i had to get rid of both bottles before i could go through check in .

I must admit whilst I was relieved I had his water - it did concern me a little - they didn't make me taste the water so it could have been anything in there!! :lmao:

(I get quite obsessive when I'm flying and start suspecting everyone and everything - so that then nearly sent me over the edge wondering who else had been let through with unchecked liquids!!:rotfl: ) - I know they can't win with me whatever they do!!!:lmao: :lmao:
