of the manager before Christmas? My 9 year old is adament that Baby Jesus should not be placed in our manager scene until Christmas morning. My 7 year old wants him there now. So one of my boys keeps removing Jesus & the other keeps putting him back. When does Baby Jesus appear in your manager?

Baby Jesus appears after we go to mass (usually at night on Christmas Eve). We sit around the manager scene and read the passage from the bible and then as we get to the point where he was born, we place him in. Never before then.

LOl I think this proves that kids will fight over anything. Jesus comes out Christmas Eve. I'm planning on doing some kind of game and the winner gets to put on the Manager. I know people that put Jesus in the stocking for the morning. YOu could solve the problem and let each of the kids have their own manager.

Well, in our house, Baby Jesus is already there...only because I forgot where I put him one year. My DD (4) loves to hold him and talk to him, so I don't think he's actually in there too much. My three Wise Men have also arrived, for the same reason.

When my girls were young, we would scatter all the "people" around the house...... Mary and Joseph were heading to Bethlehem from one direction...... the shepherds/sheep were in an area not too far from the manger....... the wise men were travelling from another direction.... each day, the kids loved moving the figures a little closer to the manger...... by Christmas Eve Mary and Joseph arrived.... on Christmas morning baby Jesus appeared (I kept this figure hidden... so no one got to see him until he was in the manger).... later, the wise men arrived.

The kids really loved doing this and it's a family Christmas memory/tradition that I think they will pass along to their families.

Since December 25th is just the day our culture has chosen to celebrate the birth of Christ, as opposed to having any firm data that He was actually born on that date. . my personal feeling is that it doesn't really make a lot of difference from a theological/moral point of view. . .

But I kind of like the idea of waiting to put the Baby Jesus in the manger until Christmas Eve as a family tradition/symbolic type thing. . :)

My advice is to explain to your boys that from now on, Baby Jesus does not go into the manger until Christmas Eve. . and then chastise them both for fighting over something like that, and squeeze some extra yardwork out of them over the deal . . ;)

This is a very interesing discussion. I have never thought about it before. I do like reading what everyone does. Next year I will have to try to remember to do this! Thanks!
