Baby Formula

Hello lovely disers,
Am hoping you can help me out. I have the nappies and everything else ordered for our trip but am at a loss what to do about baby formula. Here in Aus baby girl has 'Nan HA Gold 2' but this is not sold in the USA, so I thought about buying a formula here that they sell there to test her out to see how she would go being changed over incase she reacts badly. Problem is I can't find anything that is sold here and there. Can any parents please help me out and point me in the right direction?

I would just take what you need plus some surplus. You'd have an idea now
How much she drinks in a week so say it was a tin a week and you were staying for two weeks you'd take two tins and maybe one spare. I would do this rather than try something new as she could react to it, it could give her tummy pains or she simply might not like it. Also from memory NAN HA is more sensitive in the allergy sense I think it is the least likely to cause an allergic reaction compared to other formulas on the market. She my react to the milk proteins in another formula. (my dd was cows milk protein/ soy protein allergic and had to hae prescription only formula) I would stick to why you know.

I second that about taking the formula with you, you just never know how they are going to react. I took ibuprofen over there and had an allergic reaction and the ingredients are the same as here i don't think i would want a baby with an upset tummy.

I third taking your own formula.

They do have a huge range in the US and you could get a really good one. But I would stick with what you know. Nappies, wipes, baby food and snacks I would get over there but formula I always took mine. Just incase DS had a reaction to it or it upset his stomach or he didn't like it.

I fourth taking your own. We had a formula accident in the suitcase and had to buy more in the US. I had the can with me with all the percentages to try and match what we had. Even the " same" brand had twice the sugar and more salt. Luckily we were just making the transition to cows milk so i didn't buy any and we made do with what we still had. It made me wonder if the extra salt and sugar would contribute to a liking for a sweeter taste and eventually to being overweight....

We took our own formula when dd was 8 mths, 5 cans of it in fact, 4 was enough but I took an extra just incase. She was on AR (reflux) formula so I didn't want to risk it at all.
Just think the space and weight it takes up on the way over is empty shopping space for the way home

I wouldn't risk using an unknown brand especially when you're travelling, it would be awful to have an unsettled baby on a big trip. Another reason for taking your own may be price - a friend who lived in the US for a couple of years was surprised that there the formula tins are half the size but twice the price.

Thanks for all the advice! I think we will just take our own, keep her happy with what she normally has. Now just need to decide what food to buy her...am going to take a few from home but think it might be a good idea to purchase some over there and just mix them (and save room in the bags) but there is so many different brands to choose from. From what I can see they don't have Rafferty's Garden, Heinz or Organic Bub which is what she has here I see they sell Ella's though and our Coles sell that (although it is always sold out) so hopefully I get try her on that before we go.
