Baby formula problem

I did read the TSA site saying they allow baby formula. But how do I keep my son's formula cold? Someone just told me they were not allowed to take ice or ice packs on board. Has anyone had to deal with this yet? Does anyone have advice?

Someone suggested frozen grapes or some other fruit. When we traveled we would bring powdered formula and mix it with water for the trip.

Have fun!

I just called jetblue and asked the same question and I was told that you can take either ice packs or gel packs to keep the bottles cold. Have fun!

::yes::

And using the powdered formula is easier while in the theme parks too:)

... And even easier are the little individually packaged packets of powder formula. Smaller to carry around. Just a thought.

Thanks for all of your help! I called Southwest, they said no ice packs or ice. She had no idea about frozen food, though. LOL I think she thought I was calling for inside a padded cell somewhere. :rotfl2:
I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that my son must have either concentrate or ready to feed for health reasons. He cannot have powder.
At least the frozen peas should make it to security. Then if they make me through them away, at least the bottles should make it to the plane.
Thanks again!

And JetBlue has NO control over what your TSA agent says. I just went back to the TSA webpage and it does not address this at all which means that your chances are probably not good. My suggestion, pack it in ice which you can dump at the security point, then go to the snackbar on the other side and get more ice.

Excellent idea! That is why I love the DIS :thumbsup2

The frozen veggies work fine; that's what seafood shippers are using when lobsters go onto commercial flights. I wouldn't bet on getting ice from the airside vendors; they might be wary of letting you have it. (Though it would probably assuage their doubts if you put it in a wide-mouth water bottle to carry it, something like a Nalgene. Then it would look like a "beverage", which would definitely be allowed on the plane. IME, using a bottle to transport ice also prevents leakage better.)

There is a small ice-pack approval for the TSA security line, but not for baby formula; it is for those special cool-pack cases that diabetics use to carry insulin. You can find it on the TSA website under the disability exceptions.
