Hi, I'm looking for a really special baby doll for my DD's birthday. I once purchased what I believe was a Lee Middleton doll with a soft body, but I can't seem to find any of those that are actually meant for "playing" with. Anyone have suggestions for a nice baby doll for a little girl to love? Thanks.

You don't mention how old you daughter is so this might not be appropriate, but the best baby doll I have ever bought is hands down the cheap Little Mommy dolls. I have been buying baby dolls for 8 years and these are the ones that my kids have stuck with the longest.

They have soft bodies, durable heads and sweet hair. My daughter has one that she has played with for 3 years now. My youngest now has one as well that she carries all over and loves to put into her high chair, stroller and crib (nevermind that Little Mommy makes baby-sized furniture that we own).

Do a google search for Corolle Calin dolls. All 3 of my girls loved these dolls. They have beanbag bodies and are really cute (much cuter than they look in the online pictures.)

My youngest has nearly every Chou Chou baby doll you can have...she is now getting to old for baby doll. :guilty:

I highly recommend the American Girl Bitty Baby. Both of my girls loved these dolls for years and it's nice because you can always add on to the collection. I think for the quality they are a very good value.

Lee Middleton makes smaller size that is easier to play with and more affordable. They are called Small Wonder or newborn wonder and are like the Nursery dolls but smaller and under $30 compared to $100. My DD has a small Lee Middleton and also a Bigger one. I actually think she played with the little one more because it was lighter and easier to carry. Just google small wonder dolls and you can find them to look at. She is 15 and got them as a little girl and they still look nice and are in her room with her Am. Girl dolls, and she played with them a lot.

Another Bitty Baby vote here! DD is 2 and loves her BB! Even DS has been seen every now and then (1yr old) hugging BB!!

I will put a plug in for my friend who makes reborn dolls. She does awesome work. I bought one for my DD and many people thought it was a real baby at first glance. Although she doesn't have anything listed on ebay right now, I'm sure she could make one for you. The doll came in a cute outfit, with a baby blanket, a birth certificate, a bottle, magnetic pacificier, and a bracelet with the name you or your DD chooses for the doll.

Those dolls are beautiful! Are they baby dolls? Do they have soft bodies?

Bitty Baby! My DD has lots of dolls that she has received over the years, but her Bitty Baby is by far her favorite. I like all the clothes and accessories choices to keep it new and interesting. DD just thinks her Bitty Baby is the most lovable!

YUP! and once you can start matching BItty & your DD it's even cuter!!!

Although I have to vote for Bitty Baby, too, as we had and loved them, our "first" baby doll was "Baby Victoria" by Madame Alexander. That was the Madame Alexander baby both girls had for their first dolls. I think the doll's name was actually Victoria - we didn't know anyone named Victoria to name her after!!! She was smaller than Bitty and very much loved for a very long time.

Thanks so much for all of the great suggestions. I'm going to start googling and checking them all out now.:yay:

The trunk of the bodies are cloth and they are filled with little beanies so the dolls feel like the weight of a newborn. The arms & legs are vinyl. She also sews each hair on a few strands at a time. Even the eye lashes finger nails look real!

My dd has a chou chou and a Baby Annabelle that she has had for several years now that she just LOVES.

This last Christmas she got a Lee Middleton doll, one of the newborn nursery ones that costs close to $100. She loves her and plays with her daily too, takes her everywhere. She isn't one of the 'collectible' ones just one of the newborn nursery ones.

I've never heard of Bitty babies.

I knew Bitty Baby would get lots of votes. ;)

I had forgotton about the Madame A baby dolls.

My girls have had those (I think Baby Huggums was our 1st baby doll ever), the Carolle baby dolls, a chou chou baby, and Bitty Baby.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. Just be sure to get one that "fits".

Personally for a toddler I like really soft & squishy or beanbag type bodies, they just seem so much easier to love on.

For girls who are a bit older or who want to do lots of playing mommy ie: having the doll sit in a high chair to feed her and such, then making sure the doll will sit and reposition without falling over is important.

Good Luck in your search.
Be sure to check back in and let us know what you think.

Edited to add: I just checked out the link to the reborn dolls. What sweet babies!

jrasmom, Bitty Baby is an American Girl doll. You have to order her online or from their catalog.
