Do they have an age limit?

We are going to Disney in the beginning of January and taking dd who is 6 and dd who will be turning 1. This will be our first time needing to use the baby care centers. What are they like? What do you use them for? Is there an age limit? Can older dd come in with me?

Thanks for your help.

It's been a long time since I've used the BC, so bare with me! I remember it was a very, very quiet, low-lit room with some rockers. The area in front was kind of like a little store with a few baby necessities available like formula (not all brands), diapers, pacifiers, etc. There were other 3 or 4 other women in there with me who were bottle feeding and/or nursing their babies. I don't think there is an age limit, but it is definately geared towards infants. Unless they've changed the atmosphere and layout, I don't think an average 6 yr old would be comfortable there.

My ds is 6 and my dd is 10 and we used them when my youngest was still in diapers about 3-4 years ago. I took my dd in with me without any problem. There was an area where you could nurse and also an area with maybe about 4 changing tables and some toys and some little chairs. I used the Center for diaper changing. The last time I used it it was the last week in August and it was HOT. My dd would come in with me and cool off in the air conditioning while I changed my ds. I think my husband waited outside on the bench but think my mom also came in with us to cool off and it was never a problem nor did I feel it wasn't ok. Have fun :)

I think they have TV's that are playing cartoons for the the older kids, while the parents are taking care of the younger ones. I've also heard that it was just a great place to take a quick break during the day, let the kids unwind, etc.

Last year we used them for nursings and diaper changes. This year will be diaper changes and rest.

They have a room for nursing or bottle feeding infants, a diaper changing station or 3, and some have an area with small chairs and/or high chairs for feeding older children. I doubt that the cast members will stop you from coming in with a 6 year old - after all, they let my 45 year old husband in ;)

Sorry, sorry, sorry!!!. I never, ever meant to imply that a 6 yr old wasn't welcome (it was early--I could have worded it better). Certainly it's a great place to come in from the crowd and heat. I probably should have left this one for the families with younger kids (no cartoons there when my DD was a baby)!!! I guess I just meant it wasn't a "play" atmosphere

LPLease don't flame me too badly and spoil my overrunning joy about going in 9 days!! I guess I won't get a visit from that tag fairy now will I?

:) :) :) :) :) :)

Hugs & Pixie Dust to all

jjsmom-don't worry...I don't think anyone was flaming you :)
I was just telling the OP my experience :)
I also frequent a cruise board and they flame ALL the time LOL
I rarely see that on these boards and certainly not over the baby center LOL :)
Enjoy your 9 days. We will be back at Disney November 26-December 5 and can't wait :)
Have fun! :)
ps, I'm happy I don't know too much about the centers anymore either LOL

The baby care centers are great! The changing tables are huge. I did find it convenient to purchase some Gerber baby fruits from them when I ran out at the end of my trip. Also they have potties that are not automatic-very nice for my DD who has a fear of public restrooms (I have since learned here to use tiny post-it notes to prevent the potty from flushing before she's done.)

Thanks js!

I guess I'm just a little, well, you know.... with excitement.

Boy I've seen some threads where someone makes one comment and it gets totally taken out of context and the next thing you know people are insulting each other right and left (it makes me want to say--c'mon folks we're talking about DISNEY here! Where's the love?) Anyway I always try to keep it nice! :teeth: :teeth:

We loved the BC. A great place to feed, diaper and relax a little from the hustle and bustle of Disney.

As far as flame throwers - is it just me or does it seem that flaming has become worse since the Debate Board was shut down?

I wasn't aware the debate board was gone LOL I didn't go on there since I didn't feel like debating while I'm happy at work researching my Disney LOL :)
If that is the case, I hope they don't find my cruise board. It is bad enough over there LOL If you don't agree or don't like the questions someone asks, you have to run for the hills LOL

We will do so again in Sept. I think you can go in with toddlers, and older siblings who need a break as well. They have a water cooler and a big room to change babies. We sat there for about 10 minutes and went in after character meals to change DD out of her costume and diaper. I remember seeing cartoons and a few golden type storybooks, so I would think they would expect to see some kids over toddler age. Great idea, Disney!

I love the baby care centers - EXCEPT the one at MGM. Compared to the others, this one seems like an afterthought. It was much smaller than the others and not as accessible. You have to go through (I think) guest relations to get to it.

But the others, especially the one at Animal Kingdom, are awesome! I think the nursing areas are private rooms with rocking chairs - I will be using that area in October. And there are changing areas, an area with a sink and stove if you have to warm up formula, and an area with small tables and chairs for the toddlers to watch some cartoons. I used the BCC with my son when he was one and 18 months. They are FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love them!

One bit of advice from the trenches:

If you get into an emergency situation and need a diaper, find a vending maching that will sell you one (plus wipes, a pad for changing and a baggie for the yucky one) for about $1.50. If you buy the diapers from the BC or a store in the parks they become quite cost-prohibitive. I think I was told $3.75 for one diaper and no wipes or anything else.

I walked around Epcot with a soggy baby in a soggy sling until I found a vending machine and a few quarters (stolen from DH). For future reference, the machine I found was in the wheelchair accessable bathroom on the back of the Fountainview Bakery, accross from The Land.

Thanks for the tip! Are they in every bathroom? I never really noticed them before.

As for the debate board being shut down, I have to agree things have been a lot worse lately. Very simple topics turn into debates so easily these days. I really wish they would reopen the Debate forum :(

I found one in the restroom at the front of AK. Right by the entrance/exit.
