Baby at WDW - How Young Is Too Young?

We're currently planning our family's first ever WDW trip for late next year.

We just found out one of the people going is pregnant. The baby will be ~3 months old when we go.

I'm having second thoughts: Is this going to work? Is it going to be too hard for baby/mom? Are we crazy? If it were you, would you change your plans? This is not the mom's first baby, so she's an experienced mom.

Let me know your thoughts or if you've been in this situation what you did/would do.

Couple of questions. Where are you planning to stay? How old is the mothers other child? I went with my 3 month old, 3 year and 5 year old on a whim while passing through right after Christmas pre fast pass +. It was the worst experience ever. We were just going to the magic kingdom. It was so cold and crowded we only got on Dumbo. Remember this was a long time ago when there was only one Dumbo! Basically it was so crowded you couldn't move. I was so mad I insisted l get my money back from my tickets. Good news Disney obliged. The moral of the story is to make a plan. Stay on property. If you can afford it stay at a monorail resort. Take advantage of extra magic hours. And try to go before school is out or after they go back!

I was stationed in MD when my middle DS was born. I'm from Texas and Baltimore was playing Texas in the inaugural season at Camden Yards.

I had had tickets since they first went on sale.

My DS was born a week before the game. We went.

Yes, we did.

Grandmotherly lady sitting behind us spent the first 4 innings aghast that we had brought someone so young out to such a crowded place.

She spent the last five innings holding him.

I strongly believe that kids shouldn't slow you down. Take the baby. Have fun.

It's been done. It can be done and people can have a great time.

Has the couple been to Disney before? I think it would be more difficult without decent knowledge of the parks. Ultimately, I'd say it's up to them. There's a few trip reports about families who take their infants to the World, I'd suggest reading through a few of those.

I say it's doable. 3 months they are still so little. No real schedule. All they do is pretty much eat and sleep. I actually think it might be easier than taking an older baby that you have to break their schedule and work around naps and such. I would definitely recommend a baby wrap or carrier.

If the mom is up for it, then I wouldn't worry about it. It's absolutely doable. I've taken my 3 month old and then just over a year ago my 7 week old on family Disney week long trips in Sept. and everything went fine. Obviously I had healthy babies, so aside from any complications in that regard, it's really not as bad as it sounds. My sister also took my niece when she was just shy of 3 months. In many ways taking a baby that young is easier than taking a toddler, just because they sleep a lot, don't eat real food yet and aren't as opinionated lol. As long as you plan accordingly, I wouldn't think twice about it.

Everyone is different, but we brought our DS this past April and he was 3 months old. We had a great trip!! It went a lot smoother than I expected.

Last year we took a 12 week old... Easiest trip ever! They sleep a ton then. Feed them, change them and put them in a stroller or carrier and they are happy! It's easier than taking a toddler. Which we've done many times as well!

Just do it!! Brought my 1st DS at 6 months, 2nd DS at 8 weeks, and DD at 7 weeks. An infant is much easier than a toddler!!!! They sleep most of the time anyway! Enjoy!!!

Why consider cancelling? You're not the one having the baby....it's the mom who should be wondering about all this, lol. Our #3 was 4 months old for his 1st trip and all was fine. Babies are fairly easy at that age. All he did was sleep, nurse and hang out in the carrier...simple. I say, if the mom wants to go, then good for her, if she wants to cancel, then let her cancel her portion of the trip, not everyone else's.

I think it's going to depend on the baby it could go really well with an easy going baby or it could be a nightmare with a high needs baby.

Leave it up to the mom, of course, but yes it's totally doable. We took my DD at 11 weeks old and again just a couple weeks ago at 16 weeks. Personally, I was not comfortable nursing all over the place so I mostly stuck to the baby care centers and quick services while we were eating. No, we didn't get as much done as we normally do but we go often enough that it wasn't a big deal to us at all and we had a great time!

I took a 5 month old and a 7 month old. My sister is taking my nephew in January he'll be 13 weeks old. She doesn't plan to be going from opening to close, but at that age, snuggle them up in a carrier and going is not really a big deal depending on the Mom and baby. If they feel they are up to it, then they probably are. The worst that could happen is that they have to cancel last minute.

My youngest niece went on her first trip to WDW at a little over 2 months. She was the easiest of the 3 kids, as another poster said they just sleep and eat at that age. They can go on any ride without a height restriction, so that leave many many rides for the whole family. No way do I think the trip should be cancelled or postponed.

We're planning on staying in one of the Moderates - we're not sure which yet. Mother's other children will be 4 and 6.

It's a trip with our immediate family and I'm single-handedly the planner, so that's why I'm the concerned one posting here. A huge reason we're going on this trip is to spend time with my sister/BIL and their kids, as they live out of state. She just told us she's pregnant, so I haven't had the conversation with her yet about her thoughts on going. I just panicked and wanted your input.

Thanks again everyone! As of now the trip is still on as we just went out and bought more Disney gift cards from Target than I care to admit here!

Agreed! My son had colic and screamed his head off for hours every night and was never happy during the day. He would have been a nightmare! He's the reason I always say make sure things are refundable when planning a trip with a young infant. My daughter would have been easy peasy.

If you are staying with a group a villa would be a good idea. We stayed at old Key west. It was really great with small children. My 2 1/2 old was sick when we went. So it was nice my hubby stayed back and everyone else went back to the park

I had 3 kids. #1 and #3 would have been fine, #2 would have been a nightmare. I would make sure you don't buy a package so you can cancel if she needs to.

Father of 4 here. Our youngest (currently 4.5 months) has been our worst sleeper, by far. Our oldest had previously held that title and our middle two kids were much better sleepers. So, it's an absolute crapshoot. We were thinking #4 was going to be a slam dunk because #3 gave us a false sense of confidence, but DS has rocked our world a bit. Having said all that, it's all up to her whether she wants to join you or not. But it's going to be really rough on all of you if baby isn't sleeping through the night and you're all in the same room or adjoining rooms.

Agree with those who advised to book something refundable. It all depends on the baby. My firstborn would have been an absolute nightmare. We could not even spend the night at my parents. Colicky and cried constantly. My second child however was incredibly easy and we could take him anywhere.
