Babies at concerts

Maybe I've been living a sheltered life. I took DH to see KISS last night as a suprise (okay show-- probably great if you were a fan). Anyhow, it was outdoors w/ pouring rain early on. Anyhow, I must of seen at least 1/2 a dozen infants at this show. The youngest looked to be about 3 months-- up to about 9 months. That mixed in w/ the dozen or so toddlers I seen. Why would anyone bring a baby to a rock concert??? I don't understand how 1 person can afford $85 for a ticket but not a babysitter too???? Is this normal now??

I sure hope it is not normal. Leaves me thinking about the damage done to those poor babies ears. I haven't seen any at the concerts I've been to recently.

I am surprised by people who do that as well. Not the place for babies, in my opinion.

No concert is appropriate for a baby. I would never have taken my children to a concert as infants.

We saw Rush a couple of weeks ago. There was a NEWBORN there!!!! I could not believe it!

Stupid, selfish people.

I wouldn't do it... Nice thing around here is most of the concerts are in Portland and so are the Grandparents. So it makes it easy.

Anyone know of any baby ear protection? I'm planning on taking DS to a few football games this fall and while they aren't as loud as a rock concert they can get pretty noisey (esp if we get the seats next to the overly excited football fan). I just want to protect his little ears if I can.

Glad to see most had the same reaction I did-- thought I might of been missing something on this one. I really was in shock when I seen the first one-- but then the next and so on!! It was so awful out too and this was an outdoor event. By the time we returned to our camper (we had been camping at six flags where the concert was) I was soaked to the bone.

we saw several little ones at the recent aerosmith concert, some were no more than 1-2 yrs old. it too was outdoors, but it was cold enough that i could see steven tylers breath on=stage! and i smelled plenty of dope too!

i was there with my 15 yr old dd, who has seen aerosmith 3x now. my ds, age 5, is asking to go, but the rule here in our house is you have to be at least 10 yrs old and it has to be an outdoor venue. i'm sure others think differently, but this is our rule. we saw plenty of pre-schoolers and early elementary age kids; to each his own!

I have a friend who took her daughter (3yo) to the Jimmy Buffett concert earlier this summer. This was at the outdoor ampitheater. I have been to several concerts there and every single one of them had MANY people smoking pot. I doubt this one would have been very different. Not to mention the noise factor. They are also VERY loud.

I won't even let my 11 1/2 year old go to a concert yet. He begged me to go to Aerosmith with a friend and his Dad and I said no way.

I guess I'm the odd one out then. My Mom and I took DS to Kenny Loggins when he was 16 months, it was at the fair on a beautiful night, he had ear plugs and had a great time! We took DD to Kenny Loggins when she was 8 months old, it was at the winery, she also had a great time, I kept her in the sling and she also had ear protection.

We take them to outdoor concerts in the park around here all the time too.

We took DD to a Simon and Garfunkel concert when she was 9months. She slept through the entire thing. I used cotton in her ears and blocked the outer ear further with my hand (the other one was pushed into my chest. While it is longer, the sound isn't a whole lot louder than some of the WDW attractions. I block her ears in some way for anything that is even remotely loud.

At the same time, I wouldn't take her to an outdoor concert with rainy weather or anywhere that there was a lot of smoke (cig or pot).

I've taken DD to a concert at age 6. Of course, it was the Beach Boys. I would have taken her sooner if they would have still been together but I had to wait! LOL. We had a blast, one of the greatest times of my life. Front row center! I always said if the BBs are anywhere close when she's 6 months, I'd take her. I'm sure we'd have done something for her ears.

I saw Kiss here on July 6 and I saw a lot of babies and young kids. I was right at the stage and it was LOUD. I felt like I was deaf afterwards, I can't imagine a child/baby. I kept comenting to my brother that it was nuts. Some of the adults with them spent a pretty penny on the seats ($125+) Also a lot of the young kids were painted to look like the Kiss members.

By the way, the concert kicked butt!!:D (Kiss fan)

Just a guess, but I don't think the music was quite as loud for the Kenny Loggins concert than it would be for KISS. ;)

Bet there weren't passed out drunk yuppies in the porta potties at kiss though :p :teeth:

DS spent an hour asking why that woman was asleep in the bathroom.

It was loud-- my ears were ringing for several hours afterwards. I do have to say the crowd wasn't too bad. Last year we seen Kiss and Aerosmith together. DH and my mother got offered drugs 4 different times. My mom was in complete shock.
