Ba seats - families & prebooking

So we booked our flights with ba ( through omega flight store ) we haven't prebooked our seats -( at £28 pp per way...)

We are 3 adults and 2 children- ages 10 & 7.

Does anyone know the policy for seating families??

My sister is also travelling on this flight with older children - 15, 12,8 ... Will any family policy also apply to her booking??


Should we really b thinking about prebooking??

The older children won't fall under the 'family' category for the purpose of early allocation of seats but as yours are under 12 they will. BA assigns seats to you about 3 days prior to departure (so they say but we had ours a week before already) and you are still free to change them when online check in opens

I wouldn't pay for pre booking

It's £28 per person each way and despite our flight being full last year, when I went on as soon as OLCI opened there were lots of seats still open.

I wouldn't pay either? If you're really concerned you can check which seats have already been booked by others under "manage my flight" on the BA website. If it starts filling up and you desperately want to sit together you could always pay then. Personally I think it is a rip-off and everyone should boycott it!

As 2tiggies said, BA will automatically allocate you seats 3-4 days before you fly as you are flying with children under 12. People who are not flying with under 12's have seats allocated once OLCI opens 24 hours before. This will give you the opportunity to see what they give you in advance of OLCI. I was in the same position as your sister, I had one child under 12 and one over but the policy applied to all of us as we were on the same booking. I wouldn't pay for it either.

£28 x 5 people, return = £280 extra, to choose your seats in advance

Worst case scenario under their family policy BA say they will always have 1 adult beside children in booking.
