The excursion should be done and you should be back to the ship on time. Not sure how old your kids are, but after spending the day in the sun will they be ready to go do something else? Just thinking that you could possibly have a melt down at the tea.

they are 9, 6 and 5, the excursion is only 3 hours, i think(hope) they will be fine (fingers and toes crossed).
