There was a survey done about a month ago across all brands and it found that a huge number of people (like 85 to 90% IIRC) were "very satisfied" with their eReader, no matter what brand they had. So to me I don't think there is necessarily a bad choice to be made.

The last one I bought was a gift for my Mom and I chose the Kindle for her because I needed something that was reliable and wouldn't have to be fiddled with and rebooted constantly. The nook just wasn't there at the time and the Sony's require to much side loading etc. So we got her a Kindle. None of us really care all that much about the Barnes and Noble in store benefits because there isn't a B&N all that close to any of our houses.

This might be a silly question, but do either the Kindle or the Nook (or any other ereaders) have the ability to check books out of the local library systems? I love to read, but don't have unlimited funds to buy new books, so I practically live at the library. I would love to have either the Kindle or the Nook, as I take books with me everywhere. It would be more convenient to be able to pull the Kindle or Nook out of my purse, instead of a large bulky book.

Not silly at all. If your library has an e-library loan system you MAY be able to. A lot depends on the format of the books. PDF, Mobi, and ePub are the most popular, and if you have a reader that supports the format you will be able to use them on your reader. You download the books to your computer then copy them to your reader. Nook and Sony ereader support both the PDF and ePub format, while Kindle supports PDF and Mobi. Both Nook and Kindle support their own proprietary format as well.
