B&B vs. HB?

Hi everyone

Going on our first family holiday to DLP, our holiday is booked and paid for and opted for B&B option, but looking at the new deals and they are offering free HB now.

I called them up and was quoted it would be less that 100 pounds to switch to HB, which for 4 evening meals for 4 of us sounds very reasonable considering how much I've heard food in the park costs .....

So my question is ... which is best?

I am going with my 3 children, none of which are huge eaters so we would be sticking to the cheaper eating places anyway as I don't want to pay out for a big meal and half get wasted, whereas is it was already paid for it wouldn't be such an issue.

I like that in the HB meal plan you get 3 courses and a drink for what works out at just over 5 pounds a head! But I can't see what food is on offer.
If it is 'boring english fare' like chips, sausages and peas then that would be right up my girls street lol but if the food is rubbish, well I don't want to pay for food I wouldn't want to eat .....

Also with HB do you have to return to the hotel to eat or can you eat in the park? I'm sure it says on the website and I'm just not reading it properly :confused3

Can anyone give me any advice as to which would be best please?

Thank you

Where are you staying ?
I would upgraded your holiday for that much tbh, you will spend a lot more than that on food.
It depends what hotel you are staying at what vouchers you get.
Google it you can eat at loads of places with the vouchers.

That sounds like a bargain, I would definitely upgrade.

If you are staying at the Cheyenne you will automatically get the standard level vouchers which can be used at a number of places, including the Cheyenne buffet in the evening and the Plaza Gardens and Agrabah Cafe buffets in the park. I've eaten in both Plaza Gardens and Agrabah Cafe and liked them both. Both have lots of choice, although Agrabah Cafe has a more Moroccan-theme. Plaza Gardens is more standard fare - lasagne, beef stew, dauphinoise potatoes, veg, plus more child-friendly options like chicken pieces and pizza.

You can also use the vouchers to eat at the plus and premium restaurants and just pay the difference.

For that money I'd go for it. At Cheyenne you get standard vouchers, my favourites from our last visit were:

The Cheyenne Hotel buffet
La Grange at Billy Bob's buffet Disney Village
Annette's Diner American diner Disney Village
Silver Spur Steakhouse Frontierland

You can also use them in part payment for the more expensive restaurants, we did at cafe Mickey. :)

Thank you :)

I think upgrading is definitely the way to go! Just need to speak to my mum and partner who are coming with us so they can do the same x

Below is a page where you will be able to see where you can eat

http://www.dlrpmagic.com/planning/dining/meal-plans/

We found the Chuck Wagon very nice and the Plaza Gardens REALLY pleasant!

For just £100 extra I think it would be the way to go as for the four of you, it would be the price of one meal!

Only issue with it is that it does limit where you can go!

Thank you for the link! I can see we would have the choice of about 9 places which I am sure will be sufficient! Also as someone said before, we can always pay the extra if need be (although I 'think' my mum was going to book a character breakfast for the girls so I doubt we will need to go anywhere else!)

x

You can use them at face value and just pay the difference at cafe mickey etc.
Think it would be silly not to upgrade your trip, for only £100.
I have upgraded mine twice now once form the Cheyenne to the SL and then to a GF room at the SL to take up the free meal plan.
The buffet places are great with small kids.
Xx

We ate at Plaza Gardens last Thursday, buffet lunch was excellent, huge choice, my son, age 10 is quite fussy & he loved it. I thought it was very good value, standard of food was about the same as Inventions, but Plaza Gardens was 1/2 the cost, no characters though.

We always tend to go to the buffets as we like the variety! Even my wife (who is the fussiest of fussy eaters) always finds something to fill her plate with!

Also, as ILOVEDLP says you can always use it for its face value elsewhere! £100 for pretty much all your food for the 4 of you is an absolute bargain!

Just to satisfy my interest I have looked up how much McDonalds is in the park (which I am guess would be the cheapest place to eat?) Prices are out of date I guess (Jan 2012) but just for a rough idea.

€4.00 for a kids meal and €5.90 for a medium meal??!!

That settles it, HB works out just under €7 a head and for that we get a 3 course meal of decent food and not Fast food garbage that leaves you hungry an hour later!!

I have another question now regarding Character meals ..... lol

You get a little more in a happy meal in France ie a yogurt but really just the same stuff and I always find it really busy and stressful in there !

Think you would be silly not to upgraded you can eat in some great places if you are after a charater meal what about restant des stars meet remy !!!.

Cafe Mickey not as good as it used to be but we still love it there, we also love Annette's dinner
:goodvibes

LOL Still have more research and planning to do!

Does anyone know how much the vouchers are worth? The info I've found is from last year.

Thanks again

Standard are worth around ¬25 for an adult and ¬11 for a child according to what I've got found.

Just keep in mind that that's what the voucher is worth against the set menus, it could be far less in monetary value. I'll ask next week and post from the DLH :)
