How do the AYCTE restaurants work with a child under 3? My DD will be 3 a month after our trip in September and eats a decent amount. I'm wondering what the dynamic is with a non buffet AYCTE with a child that age?

At home we typically order her her own kids meal but I know in buffets she is free and can have her own plate. At, say, Ohana dinner, for instance, will we need to go OOP for her meal and order her a kids portion or will they bring us an extra plate with food?

We do not have AYCTE restaurants at home, just buffets and normal TS, not sure what to expect.

At both the AYCTE family style restaurants and at the buffets you will not be charged for her unless you choose to order something extra for her (e.g. drink in a souvie glass).

AYCTE and buffets don't charge for two-year-olds. She can eat off the family-style trays they bring or get food from the buffet for no charge. The is one reason we did Akershus last year: it was cheaper than it would ever be when our daughter was two!

One caveat: even though it feels kind of like you're cheaping out, say something to the server about the child being only two. We got charged for DD at Liberty Tree. (To be fair, she is tall, verbal, and a great eater, so I think the server just assumed she was three.)

Took DGD........she was charged one place, but they removed it when I told them she was 2 (big for her age).
At a breakfast buffet they even made her dairy free pancakes which she loved.

Just tell them up front from the beginning that the child is under 3. We never had an issue on our trips when the kids were under 3, nor did I really think about it, but I think I was just programmed to automatically volunteer this info when checking in and talking to servers. i.e. we've got two adults, a child, and one under 3.

We did Ohana on our last visit and my daughter was 14 months. They were great with her. Plates are already on the table when you are seated. The waitress also brought her out a juice, a big dish of mac and cheese and also gave us the kids dessert at the end. (brownies) We never asked for anything special for her and they didnt charge us anything for her.
