I just got awful news about a friend of mine. She's in her early thirties and, without gonig into too much detail, was just diagnosed with something that sounds like it could be fatal in a short period of time (metastatic cancer with no good treatment options). She's overseas, so she's not sometime I visit or talk to on the phone, but we've known each other for over a decade (were roommates for a year way back), and we normally read each other's blogs and communicate by email.
Now, I have my paper and pen, and I really refuse to procrastinate any longer, but I have no idea what to say. I'm worried I'm going to sound like I'm saying goodbye, when she may be in a hopeful place. Or, I'm worried if I sound hopeful, it's going to sound fake. Plus, I'm just really, really upset about it, so I wanted to vent a bit about that first because I don't want the letter to be about me being upset, when it's really for her.
This stinks,
Rachel
