I was looking at this hotel/resort in upstate New York the other day. It looked really great - had huge pools, slides, and a whole bunch for familys to do. People who reviewed it on tripadvisor said that it is an awesome place - almost as good as Disney (I swear, someone said it!) and got an over all of 5 stars from everyone. Well I was at work looking at it, and forgot to save the name of it, and no matter what I do, I can't find the place again!!!!! I thought it was somwhere in/near Grand Gorge, NY, but I've looked that place up 1,000 times, and I can't find anything in it close to this place.

Anyone know what place I'm talking about??? I think it was in the Catskill region, but it may have been a bit further up, I'm not sure. Somewhere between Woodstock and Cooperstown.....

TIA

Was it one of the dude ranches that are upstate?
They may be fun but i wouldn't rave over them.
I live on Long Island and know many people who go upstate but noone thinks their 5 star vacations, mostly just places nearby where you can go with family and friends.

Don't know to where you're referring but why don't you check your search browser history to find the TA reports again?

I have no idea if this is it but there's a place called Lake George that is popular (not been myself yet). :confused3

cheers,
:flower3:

We go to Lake George every year with friends and it's nowhere near even a 3 star resort. They may have alot to do for the kids with Great Escape Six Flags park( crappy one too), water park, ko-karts, mini golf but most places are set in 1970's-1980's

Do you mean due North of the Catskills like Saratoga, Lake George or West of them like Cooperstown?
That may help narrow the area you are looking for.

Darien Lake? That has a lot to do.

Old Forge, NY? There is the Enchanted Forest there, with a pretty good water park (for the area).

"Way up north?" Not sure what all parks are left (it's been some time) but Santa's Village or something along those lines, Lake George (already mentioned) other area around Tupper/Big Tupper or Lake Placid???

NY is a huge state, so it's going to be better if you give us at least the general geographic location. The Catskills are no where near Lake George for example.

No, its not a dude ranch. And I didn't say that its a 5 star resort, just that people rated it with 5 stars when they reviewed it on tripadvisor.
I don't really know how to do that thing that klam is talking about, but its a work computer, so I don't know if it would work anyway...... Just have to keep searching I guess!

Ok- its not a park, but a hotel/resort kind of place. Also, yes, its not in the lake george area, its in the catskills (or that region). I was looking at hotels in towns between Harrimon and Cooperstown, so that may help a bit. What did was put in Woodstock to Cooperstown into mapquest, and took towns off there and put them into tripadvisor for hotels. I've done it again a million times, for every town I see like Great Gorge, and Meridith, etc, and nothing is coming up. It seemed like such a nice looking place, with such great reviews, and it wasn't over expencive, so I'm thinking SOMEONE on here has to know it!!!!

TIA

Was it this place. They are a wonderful family resort that has activities for you. You are never at a loss for things to do.

I think I got it right. LOL I just looked on trip advisor and someone said "It's Better than Disneyland."

Thats it!!! You found it for me - thanks so much!! Have you ever been there? What do you think?

Thanks so much for finding it - I'm so excited now to show it to DH.

Thanks again!!!

We have been here only once but I have friends that return every year. The only reason we haven't returned is because it is a little pricey. They cook all your meals for you, have daily activities, trips to places on thier small bus, (We went in the fall and they took us apple picking and pumpkin picking) My Husband played golf which was right on the property. The pool wasn't open when we were there but it did look amazing. At night time they have theme nights and activities. I remember at night they had these silly cars rides, we even rode in a monster truck over some cars in the woods. Take a look at there website like I said before it is expensive but you do get your monies worth.

Those rates sem huge too me. I know it';s more then I spend at Disney. I'm here in upstate NY, I've been to Lake George, old forge, Pinegrove Dude Ranch, rocking Hill ranch. I just can't imagine spending sooo much to be up here... The cheapest room would run me over 2700:scared1: for my family of 3 food included... I have a moderate booked with disney with dining and it is running me under 1900. Better than Disney? I can't imagine better than all the restaurants and different activities~!:goodvibes

Well I just called for rates - theres no way we would be going this year, but I was just curious. I asked about the "kids free" weekend, and it was booked, but they said they would give me kids free for the next weekend. For 3 days, if I paid cash, it would be something like $550. Its a lot of money for 3 days, but its with food included, plus I just LOVE upstate New York. I love the drive, I love being there, etc. Maybe next year DH and I can go just by ourselves - I know its great for kids, but it seems really relaxing too. Plus, if we go durring the week, it would probably be cheaper. As someone said, I don't know about it being better than Disney, but it seems nice, and I can drive there.
Thanks everyone!

I won't even compare it to Disney. They are two completely different types of vacations. It is a wonderful resort, Good food (but all in the dining Hall, sometimes they BBQ) Lots of activities, expensive - VERY, Disney - No. More like The resort from Dirty Dancing. LOL

Thats the first thing I thought of too! Well that movie was based on the resorts of the Catskills, wasn't it??
