Prior to getting my Kindle, I downloaded the Kindle app for my iPhone. I had two (free) books that I had downloaded for my Kindle app. For Christmas, I got (a different ereader I took back for) a Kindle. For some reason, my Kindle app recognized my new purchases but my Kindle didn't recognize the two prior downloads. After trying to figure it out myself, I sent Amazon an email this morning. Hours after I sent it, I got this response:

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you've had while accessing your account. After some investigation, I think I've identified the problem. You have 2 Amazon.com accounts with same e-mail address and different passwords.

Here are the details for the accounts you currently have listed under your e-mail address:

Account #1:
Name on account: xxx
Last physical order placed: Jan 5, 2011
Last digital order placed: Jan 16, 2011
Devices linked on account: Kindle & Kindle for iPhone

Account #2:
Name on account: xxx
Last physical order placed: Oct 25, 2010
Last digital order placed: Oct 2, 2010
Devices linked on account: Kindle for iPhone

Currently Account#2 has been closed. As the orders have been placed from this account you're unable to access the books onto you're Kindle device which is registered in Account#1.

As the current price of the item for the title is "Outlander" by Gabaldon, Diana is $7.01. I've issued you a $7.01 promotional certificate to your Account#1, wherein you can purchase the content with the available promotions.

I'm unable to find the other title on your Amazon.com account. Please write to us with the order number and title of the Kindle content in order to issue a promotion for the title. Please visit the following link to provide the information we requested: ________________

HOW AWESOME IS THAT???? I can only speak to the great service I've received from Amazon, but I do not second guess my choice to take back the ereader I got from B&N and buy my Kindle.

That's great. I think they really are showing other businesses what good quality service is!
