So i just read about a special magicband available this Summer when you add 2 day park tickets to a room only reservation. It's a special edition awaken summer band and it will make special colors/sounds at different magicband scanners. Are dvc reservations included in the special edition offer?

Supposedly there will be a DVC band for sale for the 25th anniversary soon, that is also in the lights/sounds price category- I think I'll wait for that.

I know about the dvc band, but once again, we have to pay for that. The Awaken Summer band is complimentary, a word which doesn't seem to go with dvc. Why do dvc owners always seem to get penalized? No free dining offers, can't participate in special offers, no "specials" unless we pay extra. DVC people spend just as much $ on vacations as others - if not more! Kind of makes us rethink being DVC members.

My friend got an Anna and Elsa band and it sings and changes colors....that was a couple of years ago. Our Halloween Party magic band has a different color light.

The Awaken Summer band is complimentary

I think it's better to say: "The Awaken Summer band is included in the room rates price". People paying cash are paying much more than a DVC member (over time, of course), so Disney give them "for free" things that are not included with our membership. I prefer to be able to book a DVC resort just with my points than a pretty magic band.

You can participate in any of the special offers that CRO offers if you meet the conditions. Those conditions mean paying cash for a room and a minimum ticket purchase.

DVC owners have already gotten a "promo" from Disney in the form of locking in discounted lodging for many years to come. It's just like the room discount promotions Disney runs-if you take that you can't have free dining too. If you take free dining you have to pay full price for the room and tickets. Honestly all Disney hotel/package promotions are meant to entice customers to book a vacation and fill rooms that are empty-DVC doesn't have to entice members as we have already paid for our rooms.
We are not prohibited from taking part of the other promotions Disney offers we just have to book the same package non DVC members book to receive it.

Exactly.

Discounts and promotions are offered to fill rooms and generate revenue. Via DVC, the primary revenue stream for those rooms has already been generated in the form of points sale and operating dues. DVC owners are a captive audience; while they can trade points out (poor value), or rent them, these are revenue-neutral for Disney. Disney simply doesn't have to have any carrots on sticks to get DVCers into rooms, because DVCers are committed already. Sure, maybe a DVC member lets their points go into breakage, but that's actually revenue positive for Disney, since they sold the points, get the dues, and can sell the room inventory not used via CRO. Even at a discount, this represents profitable double-dipping.

So DVC members get the shaft again...
Well, not as I see it. DVC members get better accommodations at a lower price from Disney, in exchange for which Disney gets a steady stream of income from us. We also get a changing variety of discounts. I understand that you'd like to feel like members of a "most favored nation" (I'd like that, too) but I'm not sure we're "captive" or that we're entitled to anything more, or that we "get the shaft" because we don't get perks offered to folks paying higher rates.

More dvc members getting the shift comments. Sell your dvc and book those "special promotions" instead if you feel you've gotten the shift. I know how much my dvc has saved me over booking a promotional deal so I'm ok without the "musical" magic band. Google free dining isn't really free. You pay for it in a higher hotel and ticket price.

I'm not sure we're "captive"

When I say "captive audience," I mean you are heavily financially committed. You've bought points, you're paying dues. You are not in a position to say, "oh no there's no discount, we'll go to Branson instead."

You can bank your points, or rent them, or trade them out. But the financial commitment to Disney has already been made. Even if you sell your contract, the next buyer will be paying the dues. The contract represents a commitment that can be transferred, but it is a commitment.

Discounts offered to the general public are generally there to woo them to make a financial commitment.
