While on the Disney Magic 7-day Western cruise we had a bad experience with the people at Parque Punta Sur on Cozumel Island. The adults in our group had been to the same beach 12 years ago and loved it. Our plan was to rent a car and drive back to what we thought would be an awesome beach. However, in the meantime the "tourist trap" industry took over and life wasn't simple anymore.
We arrived at Parque Punta Sur and are informed in order to go to the beach we must pay $10/person (cash only) for a crowded shuttle bus ride to the beach. We were astonished at the fee but paid anyway. The shuttle bus took us to the Punta Celerain lighthouse (which we could explore for yet more $$) but not the beach! Next we were told to get to the beach we had to wait for ANOTHER shuttle. We were deceived about the amount of shuttling time (who wants to pay $$ to ride around on a crowded shuttle) and changed our minds about continuing onto the beach. We got right back on the shuttle to go back to the admission desk to ask for our money back. The park people told us no way could we get our money back!!! Amazing! However, after a bit of demanding our money back (in front of our children which was extra upsetting) and then being told we can't have it they seemed to relent. But first, we are told we must wait just one more moment-very strange. Finally, we get our cash back. Whew---we thought. We walk back to our car and noticed the right front tire is slashed!!! We know they knew our car (the only 7-passenger car in the whole parking lot full of jeeps) plus the parking lot attendant saw us arrive. They needed "another moment" to SLASH OUR TIRE! The whole incident was pretty low and very creepy especially with four young children witnessing this whole incident! We changed the tire and left. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
Joanna (who thought the rest of the cruise was fantastic!)
