This was in the Daily Mail on Wednesday:
'Travellers can save themselves a fortune in foreign exchange charges... Open a Nationwide current account, called a FlexAccount, and when you go on holiday you can draw out money using your debit card without paying any charges. Even if the foreign bank where you're making a cash withdrawal charges you for using their ATM, the building society won't pass on the charge to you. Card issuers also have foreign exchange fees passed on to them by the Mastercard and Visa schemes. But even though Visa charges Nationwide 0.84pc for foreign currency cash withdrawals outside the EU, the building society absorbs the cost. All the other debit card issuers charge exchange rate fees, typically around 2.75pc, and cash handling fees of around 2.25pc. It means a family spending £500 on holiday could have a free meal out on their saving of £25.'
You may already be aware of this, but if not it may be worth looking into.
