Has anyone booked Avis rental car after getting off the Disney Cruise at Port Canaveral? Wondering how the shuttle service works. Do we schedule them to pick us up, or do they run regular shuttles? Are there signs for the shuttle pickup area? This is the first time we are not driving and parking at the garage.

We are planning on doing a one way rental from Port Canaveral and returning it to MCO.

We almost always get Avis after and before a Port Canaveral cruise. Their one day rentals are a better buy than DCL shuttles.

They run regular shuttles. The DCL CM’s tell you where to wait.

What time would you put on the Avis reservation for car pickup? I'm concerned about losing the reservation if we miss the set time. Thank you!

They normally hold a reservation for 24 hours, so you'd have to be really late... :)
Having queued for over an hour to pick up a rental car at one of the port locations in January, that’s probably a good thing😀. We had also waited between 30 and 45 minutes in a queue at the port to catch the shuttle. If you usually use one of the skip-the-line rental affinity programs at airport locations, it seems like a different rental experience when picking up at the port.

That's what I'm afraid of. Hoping to hear feedback from others regarding the efficiency of the shuttle service as well as how insane it would be at the rental counter.

That can depend on how many ships are returning to PC that morning, and secondarily how many departed the prior afternoon. The car rentals at the port don't have large lots and thus are largely dependent on turn-over traffic. On a day with a lot of ships in port, it's possible for longer waits because the rental returns (coming from those who will be embarking later in the day) aren't all in yet. Add to that the simple fact that unlike an airport where flights are coming in throughout the day, pretty much all ships debark in the morning before 9am so everyone is there at the same time.

National/Enterprise and Alamo always seem to have the shortest lines. Avis can get busy, but the one time we used them it wasn't too bad. We did Budget once, and never again. The lines at MCO and at PC were crazy!! (And it seems that way whenever we pass by them).

Bumping a 6 month old thread in case anyone has more feedback about how the Avis shuttle is, both dropping off a car to get onto port and then also getting picked up from port to go pick up a car.

My only experience was a 2022 Wish cruise. The cruise before us was late, all of our boarding groups got delayed, and then there was crazy traffic to get onto the port. However, based on what I heard from the rental car guys, that was because the regular traffic flow wasn't in effect. Instead, people were essentially debarking and boarding at essentially the same time because of the inbound delay leading to extreme congestion on all fronts.

Then, our cruise was impacted by a hurricane and we weren't cleared to debark until after noon because the whole port was closed while they assessed storm damage. So, again, total craziness at the port where folks were trying to arrive and depart at the same time. That time, it took literally hours to get away from the port. We even tried to just call an Uber to bring my husband from port to Avis to get the car and come get us, but there were no Ubers available at all for anyone leaving port. It was just a total mess.

So, anyone have recent experiences how the Avis shuttle is when cruises are actually running as scheduled?

ETA My husband gets super level Avis from work. Maybe President? President plus? I don't know, but it's one of their top tiers, so we don't generally have an issue with the service at the counter once we are there.

Have you dropped off at Avis and used the shuttle to the port? For a family of four (kids are teens) would you recommend my husband drops us and all our stuff and then returns car on his own? Or should we all do the shuttle? Thanks!

If you're not too worried about finding your husband, I'd have him drop off and then come back on his own. If it is more important to stay together, the shuttle is fine - there's a covered seating area outside of the Avis building and the shuttle runs pretty often.

What time did you get to the rental office? Makes me nervous that we should leave the ship early to get our car.

We were on the first shuttle that left. They just didn't have the car in stock so we had to wait for people to return it. I tell you it has been an incredible lesson's learnt for us we had a flight to catch and we caught it just in time!
