Can anyone tell me the process to pick up an Avis rental car at the port? Is there an Avis shuttle? Do you have to call the rental car company to pick you up or will the shuttle be there when you get off? Can you take the hotel shuttle if you are not staying at the hotel? If so, where do you go to get that shuttle? If shuttles are not immediately available, are there cabs readily available? How much do they cost?

We will be in a bit of a rush to get the car so I would like to know the process to speed things along. Any info would be appreciated.

After leaving the DCL Terminal, we went out to the parking area and waited in line under a white canopy, there the Avis shuttle van picked us up and took us to their location on A1A, where we picked up our rental car. It all ran rather smoothly for us, we only waited about 15-20 minutes for the shuttle to pick us up. There was no need to call for a shuttle.

Avis is one of the best car rental companies in Cocoa beach. They run their shuttle about every 20ish minutes. You have to walk across the street w/your luggage and wait for the van to show up.
You do not need to call. They automatically start running the shuttles. The only concern - is that as one of the better ones- they can be popular. This is only about a 10 passenger van - so make sure that you approach the van quickly when it pulls up - to make sure you get on.

I paid a visit to Avis on Wednesday. They now have three buses... and they are the small buses that you'll find at many airports rather than the vans they used to run.

Does anyone have experience with Budget, Hertz or National rentals? How are there shuttles to and from the port? Is there one rental company you would recommend over the others at the port for convenience of shuttle service or for price?

Budget seems to be the most economical one and so I would really like to learn more about it please.

Can anyone tell me the process to pick up a Budget rental car at the port?

Many thanks.

If you are booking online I found a great discount code for avis that you can enter ( J818324 ) it saved me around 40.00 on our rental and with that I found it to be much cheaper than any other discount I could use/ find with Budget.
Good Luck

Budget and Hertz both have two standard vans... smaller than the mini-buses that Avis has. Budget and Hertz will both have their vans circulating as will Avis. National does not have a shuttle... you have to take a taxi but they'll deduct $11 from your rental fees if you present a receipt.

Thanks, Dave_from_Marietta.

I believe there are signs at the port that show where we should wait for Budget's shuttle, aren't there?

When we got off the ship in August we went over to the parking lot area where they had a white canopy. Under the canopy there were signs showing which line you needed to get into for the different shuttles.

Glad to hear they have signs directing the shuttle lines under the white canopy. Last May there was just a big canopy with no direction. It was a free for all. It sounds like it is much better now.

The whole process would work more smoothly for everyone involved if ONE person from each party would take the shuttle back to Avis, leaving the other people and luggage at the port. Then drive up to the terminal and pick up everyone/everything. Much easier and faster if we all do it that way.

WIcruizer...great idea! Would I be able to drive up to the terminal to pick up my family, or would I have to meet them in the parking lot (i.e near the shuttle canopy)?

I'm not sure how it works today, but last time we cruised you could drive up to the terminal. Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there was a period of time after 9/11 when you couldn't do that. As long as you have ID you should be fine.
