Just an FYI --

I've booked us an Intermediate size car from Avis at the Port for the day of debarkation (November 30); I got a rate of $39.50. Dropping off at Orlando airport and there are no additional charges. I used no particular code to get this rate. Let me know if you have done better! IMHO, since our flight is not until 7:00 pm, and considering the savings over the DCL transportation, it's a bargain for the 3 of us!

Thanks.

Not a bad price, but you might want to try with code J945605 - I used that and it dropped my price by $10.

That code you listed droped my rate for a mini van $20,thanks for sharing!:bounce: :bounce:

Another code that gives similiar discounts as the J code is D002807 said to include CDW ( don't know what that means) but I got a grand am for 33.99 before all the little extra charges. so $42.16 total. I did it with the J code and was the same price. This is better than the K code.

disvaclub92.....

Me too. I just went to Avis online and cancelled my ressie and rebooked with that code and also saved $20.00 on our van rental.

Have you used that code before and it worked? I just don't want any surprises when I get to the Avis counter.

Also, when are you travelling and do you know what kind of code it is (off a website somewhere, a corporate rate, etc.)? We had always used the code from mousesaver.com which was great but this beat it by $20.00.

I have always searched the web for discount codes. I used Mousesaver codes and codes I have found on other sites.

I never had any problems, as long as I bring my paper confirmation from Avis.com.

The D code is from the ASAP (Amateur Sports Assistance Program) and I to found it on a long list of codes for rentals. I agree with disvaclub92, I just bring my confirmation and have never had any problem. I can't even remember what code I used for my June rental, but had no problems. I also had the $25 discount for registering for wizard. If you use a coupon like from the entertainment book you do need to bring that with you. Otherwise, they could care less about what code you used.

Thank you all!!!!

I am just happy I saved some more dough!!! Now I have more money for drinks by the pool!!!

padisneyfan,

I just noticed that you are on the same cruise as us. Do you have any kids? If so, how old are they? (I have two DG - 6 and 4.)

disvaclub92,

Yes, I have 2 sons 18 and 19 who will be in college when DH and I go on the cruise. We just got back from 4 day Wonder and 7 days CBR in June with all of us. The 9/28 cruise is the first time in 19 years that we will be taking a vacation without kids. It is our way of dealing with the empty nest, we are just leaving it to cruise. Maybe we will get to meet each other during the cruise. I saw that there is a really long 9/28 cruise thread on the cruise forum, but I didn't add our name since we just recently signed up for the cruise. You live near Philly, I've been through your area many times on my way to an ice rink since my boys played travel ice hockey for years. I know all the rinks in the Philly area. Aare you also DVC members, we are to home resort is OKW.

I just tried both codes. The J code raised my rate by 50 cents and the D code would not work. I do need to say that I erred last night: my rate is for a full size "Imapala" or similar which I think is a pretty big car for the 3 of us. (Gotta be able to haul all our goodies back!) Today I tried the exact same search and the rate was $10 higher. I think the moral of the story is if you don't like the rate, keep trying!

mcnus,

Wonder why that D code didn't work for you, because I just did all my car rentals last night and used it. I did find that from the time I used it for my one day rental to get to port and when I did my next reservation for after the cruise the rate went up $1. I have a wizard card and maybe that is why it let me use the D code. Also if you don't have a wizard card and register for one, it was giving you a coupon for 1-5 day discount of up to $25. I did that for my June trip.

Nancy

I have a wizard card too, so it wasn't that. It told me that the "rate plan invalid". All of these hotel/car rental things are ridiculously complex! Generally, my corporate TA makes all my reservations for me so I may run the price by her & see if she can get the price lower, although, as I said b4, considering what I would have paid for the DCL bus, plus the convenience of not sitting at the airport from early am until 7 pm, I consider the $39 to be a bargain!! :D

msnus,

All these various codes do drive you crazy, and you spent so much time trying to get the best deal. I think you did get a good price for the Impala as it was less than I paid in June for the same style of car.

Nancy

You are so right! MY DH thinks that I have gone insane over this cruise. He is getting worried that it won't live up to my expectations after all the time I've spent planning. He just doesn't get that half the fun is the planning!

I noticed that you are also a DVC owner. Have you been satisfied? We own a timeshare in Lake Buena Vista but I have wanted to buy at DVC for awhile. DH thinks it's too expensive & complicated.

Allison

Allison,

I love the DVC and have been a member since 1993 at OKW. Prior to that we always camped at Fort Wilderness. We mostly use it for OKW, but have been to VB and both my cruises on the Wonder were with DVC points. If you are interested, you should look into resales as they are so much cheaper to purchase. I have never had a problem getting ressies at OKW. I like the flexibility of their timeshares and now that both my sons will be off to college this fall I can now start to travel at times we couldn't before that is why DH and I are doing the 9/28 Magic cruise. We may soon buy additional points through resale so that we can travel a little more.

My DH also thinks I am insane with all the planning. He never knows where we are going to be or how we are getting there until we get there as I keep changing things. I get to use my organization things for fun things this way, not for work.

Nancy

Thanks for the AVIS discount code. I've booked our Buick LaSabre for Nov 30 from the Radisson location and will turn in at Melbourne Airport. Delta couldn't get us back to Atlanta 1st class (DH is a Flying Colonel with Delta and we usually fly free from his millions of freq flyer miles) from Orlando (MCO) until December 6 and while I would've loved 6 days in Orlando WDW and other places, needed to get twin DS8 back to school!

We'll spend the day at Kennedy Space Center which we've never been to. The drive to Melbourne is about the same as to Orlando from Canaveral and since Melbourne is a much smaller airport, maybe the security procedures will be faster and less crowded!!

Thanks again for info!

When you book at Avis online, click on the "upgrade your family" button to the right before you make reservations. I used the discount code AND the coupon number that came up automatically. This coupon will double upgrade your car category. I called reservations directly afterwards and the representative confirmed that we would be upgraded two categories as long as they had those cars available at the time. By the way, that last code posted saved me an additional $50 for the 4 1/2 day rental we will be using after the cruise. :)

padisneyfan,

Yes, we are DVC members - OKW is our home too - but I like BWV. We do live right outside of Philly - near Face Off Circle - Warminster, PA Hockey Rink (lol).

I did not join that 9/28 thread either - but we should get together on the cruise.

I will send you my email - via PM.

Take Care
