Avis does not have Chevy Suburban

For anyone wanting to rent a Chevy Suburban from Orlando Avis, they do not carry them, despite what their website says. At the last minute, we upgraded our Chevy Venture to the Suburban because we added one person to our trip and we were worried that we wouldn't fit everyone plus the luggage. Between the overall cost of vehicles going up from the time we booked, and the upgraded vehicle, we were paying $300 more for 12 days. When we got to MCO, my husband was told they don't carry the suburban, and they hate that the website says they do. We were given a Ford Expedition which is NOT similar to a Suburban, and is more like a caravan when all the seats are up. We barely fit all the luggage and probably would have had the same room in the original caravan for $300 less. Upon returning the vehicle, we did get $92 off - the current difference of the Chevy Venture and Ford Expedition, but that was it. The service from the Customer Service rep in this matter was awful. I won't use Avis again. Just thought I would pass this along to anyone expecting a Suburban!

Even the website tells you that the cars they show are representative. For the large SUV it says 'Large SUV/Other
Chevrolet Suburban or Similar' Remember that Rental car companies may have a completely different view of similar then you do. Since both of the vehicles are SUVs and could seat up to 8 passengers it counts in the minds of the rental company.

Realistically upgrading to get a specific vehicle is very risky. Avis's web site says Avis is unable to guarantee a specific make/model. All car groups and models may not be available at all locations.

Even if they had SUburbans in stock there is not any gurantee they wouldn't have leased them all out when you arrived. They only look at it by class when leasing not by type.

I understood that I may not get a Suburban, but I did expect similar in terms of passengers and luggage capacity. I drive a Suburban at home and what we got is not comparable. What I got was similar in terms of passengers, as you said. If we had 8 people in that vehicle, we would have had no room for luggage. We did not have an excessive amount of luggage, but one bag more would have put us over the edge! I wanted to point this out to anyone else who also may be looking for a large rental as we did.
